Isaiah 43:16-2116 This is what the LORD says—
he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,
17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
20 The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,21 the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.
A) “Who made a way through the sea”
When your back’s against the wall and it looks like you’ve lost your way,
God makes a way where there is no way.
Exodus 14:3-4 3 Pharaoh will think, ‘The Israelites are
wandering around the land in confusion, hemmed in by the desert.’ 4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for
myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the
LORD.” So the Israelites did this.
Phil 4:6-76 Do not be anxious about anything, but in
every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests
to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
B) Before God can do something new…
you must let go of the old
1) Forget those things that are behind
2 Corinthians 5:20-2120 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s
behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so
that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Isaiah 42:9See, the former things have taken place,
and new things I declare;before they spring into being I announce them to you.”
2) Don’t dwell on the past
Phil 3:12-14 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which
Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining
toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God
has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Romans 12:22 Do not conform to the pattern of this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Katalambano means to obtain, to take hold of, seize, and overtake
C) I am doing a new thing
Eph 4:22-24 22 You were taught, with regard to your
former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful
desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new
self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Eph 2:10For we are God’s handiwork, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
D) That they may proclaim my praise
Eph 5:20 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
Heb 13:1515 Through Jesus, therefore, let us
continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess
his name.
