“Fill a Bottle, Save a Life!” Sunday, May 8th, will begin our annual Baby Bottle Campaign for the Hannah Pregnancy Resource Center. The Baby Bottle Campaign is an easy and fun way for the whole family to help save lives by donating change (bills and checks are also accepted) to the ministries of the Hannah Pregnancy Resource Center. Take a bottle home and place in a popular spot like the kitchen counter and use it as a reminder to pray for the women, babies, and families served by the Hannah PRC. Over the next 6 weeks, fill it with change and return it to the church by Sunday, June 19th.

First Presbyterian Church of Magnolia, Arkansas The Minutes for the Stated Meeting of the Session

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016; 6:00 p.m. The Session of First Presbyterian Church of Magnolia, Arkansas met for its monthly stated meeting on

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016. The following members were present: Moderator Rev. Morgan, Jodie Arnold, Dalene Baer, Martine Boumtje, Nate Caldwell, Trish DuPriest, Rochelle McMahen, Blake Pierce, Ryan Phillips, Ann Rouch, Joanna Smith, and Chris White. Also present was Pierre Boumtje, Clerk of the Session. Anita Moore and Kathy Gean (Treasurer) had excused absences.

The Rev. Morgan declared a quorum present and opened the meeting with prayer at 6:00 pm. Dalene Baer gave a devotional emphasizing the importance of Easter as a Christian holiday. The fact

that Christ is the only person who came back from the dead and never died again, makes Easter the greatest of all Christian holidays. The main lesson echoed 1 Corinthians 15:17 that if Christ had not been raised from the dead, our Christian faith would have no meaning.

In the absence of Kathy Gean, the Rev. Morgan presented the financial report. It was moved, seconded, and approved to receive the Treasurer's report as information.

It was moved, seconded, and passed to approve the minutes of the February 23rd, 2016 Stated Session meeting with minor correction.

It was moved, seconded, and passed to approve a request by the SAU Student Athletic Trainers Club to use our Fellowship Hall on Friday evening and Saturday morning (April 1st 2nd) for a rummage sale. Ken Cole is their sponsor and will be with them.

A correspondence from Banner News reminding First Presbyterian to renew our subscription for possible publications in their newspaper was passed to the Evangelism Mission Committee for examination and action.

The Rev. Morgan reported on the health status of some Church members including Cameron Dodson, Sue Parham, Patsy Bentley, Glen Martin, Phil Genestet, Vance Groce, Pam Murphy, Chuck Morgan, Drew Moore, Janet Hixson and her son, Allen.

The Rev. Morgan reported that Patrick Murphy, brother of Rick Murphy and Mary Martin, passed away March 8th in Jacksonville, FL. The family has tentatively scheduled a memorial service to be held here at the church on Sunday afternoon, May 22nd.

With no objections, it was decided to reschedule the April Luncheon from April 3rd to April 10th, to allow Steve Crane to attend the presentation on Church Property.

Committee reports were given. Trish DuPriest reported for the Fellowship Committee and presented plans for potluck luncheons for

April 10th and May 8th (Mother's Day). Ann Rouch reported for the Discipleship Committee. Two new teachers are needed starting August

2016. Each of the new teachers will teach one Wednesday and one Sunday per month. It was moved and passed to approve the Youth Groups trip to Logoly on April 20th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Chaperones (especially men) are needed for this trip.

Ryan Phillips reported for the Mission and Evangelism Committee. Joanna Smith reporting for the Worship Committee updated the Session on preparations for the Lenten

season. There will be no activities on Wednesday of the Holy Week. There will be a worship service with Communion at 6:15pm on Maundy Thursday, following a meal in the Fellowship Hall. The congregation and community are invited to watch "The Passion of the Christ' on Good Friday in the church's sanctuary at 6:00 pm, following a light dinner in the Fellowship Hall.

Blake Pierce reporting for the Property Committee informed the Session that basketball goals and benches at the basketball court have been removed. Also, the roof on the storage building has been replaced. The Committee has estimated the cost of adding handicap parking and re-striping the parking lot to approximately $3500 to $4000. It was decided that the Long Range Planning Committee pay for the parking lot work. It was decided that one marker board be transferred from the Conference Room to the Handbell Choir Room to satisfy the request by the Handbell Choir.

Pierre Boumtje reported for the Cameroon Committee. Tickets for the Thursday, April 28th annual Cameroon Mission BBQ Lunch are available at the Church Office. The Church Secretary is also finalizing the accompanying ad. A copy of the ad will also be published in Banner News. Members of the Congregation are encouraged to help sell the tickets in the community. Volunteers will be needed for the assembly line, one person will be needed to help Pastor Mike with rubbing the briskets on the morning of Wednesday April 27th, beginning at about 10:30am. Nate Caldwell has volunteered to help cook some of the added briskets on his smoker. One more brisket cook will be needed. Two more brisket slicers will be needed for Thursday April 28th.

Ushers passed offering plates to collect the ballots. The Moderator asked if all ballots were col-lected. When the ushers indicated that all ballots were collected, the Moderator declared the business of the meeting concluded. He informed the congregation that the results would be sent out by email as soon as possible after the tabulation was concluded, but that if anyone wished to stay until the votes had been counted, they were certainly able to do so. The ballots were given to the Clerk of Session, Dr. Pierre Boumtje, and Treasurer, Kathy Gean for tabulation. The Moderator asked the congregation to rise for the benediction which concluded the meeting at 12:00 noon. The ballots were immediately checked against the attendance roll from the meeting and tabulat-ed. The vote was 43 in favor of the resolution and 4 opposed. The Resolution was passed. The Moderator immediately sent an email to congregation members informing them of the result. Respectfully submitted, Dr. Pierre Boumtje, Clerk Rev. Mike Morgan, Moderator

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Meeting of the Corporation of
First Presbyterian Church of Magnolia, Arkansas 11:45 am, Sunday, April 24th, 2016
A meeting of the corporation of First Presbyterian Church of Magnolia, Arkansas, having been ordered by Session at its Stated Meeting of March 22nd, 2016, following a recommendation from the Discernment Committee, and notice having been given to members through the previous church newsletter distributed on March 27th and in the church worship bulletins of April 17th and 24th, was called to order with prayer at 11:45am on Sunday, April 24th, 2016. The Clerk of Session, Dr. Pierre Boumtje being present, the Moderator asked if he would be able to serve as clerk for the meeting. Dr. Boumtje answered in the affirmative. The roll had been checked by Elder Ann Rouch who reported that 47 members on the active roll were present. A quorum (one-third of 121 active members) sufficient for the meeting was declared by the Moderator, who then called upon Mr. Steve Crane to present the resolution to be voted upon. A written copy already having been distributed to members, Mr. Crane noticed that the final paragraph of the resolution had been lost in transmission or duplication. He read the missing portion asking for a motion to amend the resolution to include the portion read to the congregation. The motion was made by Todd Smith and seconded by Benny Grant. There were no questions or discussion so a voice vote was called for by the Moderator on the amendment. The motion to amend was approved unanimously. Mr. Crane then explained briefly the purpose of the resolution and the reasoning behind it. The Moderator asked for questions or comments. There were none, so the resolution proceeded to a vote by secret ballot. While ushers distributed the ballots, the Moderator explained the procedures once more:
1) One must be an active member over the age of 14 to vote. 2) The vote must be cast on one of the special ballots provided. 3) One must identify the ballot by writing his or her name so that during counting, each ballot could be checked to make sure that it had been cast by an active member present for the meeting. 4) One box, and only one box, either the “Yes” box or the “No” box, must be marked. Failure to mark
one box or to write the voter’s name on the ballot, would make it ineligible for counting. 5) A majority of the votes counted would decide the matter.
May 2016 Page 5
The Rev. Morgan reported for the Discernment Committee. At its recent meeting, the Committee heard the final report from Steve Crane regarding the church's property title search. The committee also heard the projected cost and likelihood of success, should the church act to get a declaratory judgment to clear the church's property title of claims by the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. Following his report there was considerable time for questions and answers. Consensus was that presenting the property issues to the congregation on April 10
th, and
allowing sufficient time to answer as many questions as possible and allowing for feedback from them would be the best way to proceed initially. It was moved, seconded, and unanimously passed to approve the recommendation from the Discernment Committee to call a meeting of the corporation for April 24th following morning worship for the purpose of authorizing the legal action on behalf of the corporation.
The Rev. Mike Morgan made available information about an overture to the next GA seeking an apology for the church's past positions rejecting same sex couples for marriage non-celibate unmarried people for ordination.
The Rev. Morgan also made available for information of the Session, a copy of part of the May 3rd
1981 Minutes of Session Meeting of FPCM about the Session understanding at that time of the Property Clause. The paragraph from the minutes read, ''The Session was also informed that a proposed amendment to the Church Constitution will be brought before the 121st General Assembly [P.C.U.S.,ed.] relative to the individual churches holding its property in trust for the Presbytery. The decision of the Supreme Court in the United States relative to disposition of property in schismatic churches make essential this revision to our constitution. These amendments do not in any way change the fact that the congregation owns its own property nor do they give Presbytery, Synod or General Assembly any jurisdiction over property."
