Resident Directors & Offices

• Directors and their staff are available 24-7 for cultural, academic, linguistic and student support.

• The majority of ISA on-site directors and staff are natives from the host country and facilitate the cultural and linguistic immersion for our students, including conducting the on-site orientations and arranging housing.

• Many hold Master’s or PhDs and have backgrounds in teaching language and working with groups.

• Maximum student to staff ratio of 20:1

• Each ISA On-site office has internet available for student use (Wi-Fi in most offices)

• Tutoring and Travel resources readily available for students in each ISA office.

Housing OptionsHomestays

• Approximately 75% of ISA students live in a homestay.

• Available at all sites in Spain, France, Belgium, Italy (Florence only) and Latin America.

• Each homestay carefully selected by ISA staff

• Facilitate student’s knowledge of the local language and culture

• The number of students per room, the number of meals and the method of laundry vary by site.

Apartments

Student Housing

Options include:Residencias- An off campus cross between a small dorm and a boarding house

Dorms-Similar to a dorm in the U.S. but may not be located on campus

Independent Housing

Students may opt out of ISA housing and secure housing independently. Students that choose this option receive a discount equal to the housing portion of the program price.

Excursions• Included in all ISA programs

with the exception of Intensive Month programs

• All excursions include:

- Ground Transportation

- Guided Tours

- Hotel accommodations and breakfast on overnight excursions

- Entrance fees (when applicable)

• Designed to compliment the academic component of each student’s study abroad program

• Led by ISA staff

• Guided tours are conducted in the host country language to reinforce the ISA language commitment

Scholarship Awards

The Dr. Carlos E. Castañeda Memorial Working Scholarship

(Applicants must be from an ISA-affiliated university) - 10 x $2,000 for Fall Study- 10 x $2,000 for Winter/Spring Study- 2 x $2,500 for Academic Year Study

The Michaela Farnum Memorial Scholarship- 5 x $1,000 for Summer Study

ISA Diversity Scholarships- 2 x $1,000 for Summer Study- 2 x $2,000 for Fall Study- 2 x $2,000 for Winter/Spring Study

Kayln Peterson Memorial Scholarship- 1 x $1,500 - $3,000 for ELAP Participants

ISA contributes over $600,000 each year in discounts, grants, and scholarship funds to US University students participating on ISA programs,

including $60,000 in scholarship funds distributed as follows:

Scholarship CriteriaCastañeda and Farnum Scholarship Awards ($50,000 annually)

Students must meet the following criteria:

- Have at least a 3.25 GPA- Be on financial aid- Have completed at least one year of appropriate college-level foreign language

or the equivalent - Be accepted to an ISA program (students participating in an ISA Customized or

ELAP stand-alone program are not eligible for these scholarships)- Casteñeda scholarship awards for students of affiliated universities only;

Farnum for students of all universities

Diversity Scholarship Awards ($10,000 annually)

Students must meet the following criteria:

- Have at least a 3.0 GPA- Be enrolled in a second or third year of undergraduate education at time of ISA

program participation at a U.S. university/college

•Photo Contest: Students can submit photos from their study abroad experience to possibly have them published in ISA promotional materials and win a prize!

ISA Global Ambassador Program

Activities

- Implement new ideas to promote global

education- Work with the study abroad office- Arrange promotional activities, talk about

study abroad experiences, assist the ISA Regional Reps during their campus visits

Benefits

- Payment from ISA, $10/hr- Valuable resume-building experience in the

International Education field- Professional reference and a letter of

recommendation for active participants- Possible future employment

A paid internship designed to encourage involvement in international education, by providing outreach opportunities on each student’s home
