That is when he’s not busy building f urniture or writing music. He uses multiple mediums such as wood, paint, leather and metal to create unique art pieces. With techniques that often include power tools, his work is as much construction as it is art. His midcentury modern design style pops with color and multidimensional features. He uses shapes and layering techniques to give each piece its own unique personality. Visit Kody’s Instagram page to see photos of some of his work and check out short videos of him in action in his garage studio. The exhibit will be on display through April 30. For more information about the exhibit or the art galleries, contact [email protected]. KU is hosting “One Day. One KU.” – a 24-hour fundraising event to celebrate everything KU – including the KU School of Medicine-Wichita! KU Endowment Association is encouraging alumni, faculty, staff and f riends to support their passion on any of KU’s campuses. From midnight-11:59 p.m. CST Tuesday, Feb. 20, all gifts to KU will be tallied. Your gift to KU School of Medicine-Wichita can be given in person or made online at this site . On the website, the school has highlighted a preference of gifts to Wichita School of Medicine Departmental Scholarships or the Greater KU Fund for Wichita, however there is an “Other” giving option where you can choose any department or specific fund you would like to give to. Speaking of departments, we’re excited to announce the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Family and Community Medicine both have separate challenge gifts where every dollar given to funds in their departments on Feb. 20 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000. Brad Rukes, our KU Endowment Association director of development, and Katie Asbury, KU Endowment Association development administrator, are hosting a free coffee bar from 8-10 a.m. that morning in the Main Lobby and will be on hand to answer any questions. They would be happy to let you know how you could support your passion, our students and our school in Wichita for as little as the cost of a cup of coffee a week.

Is there a special event happening in your department? Do you know a student who has an interesting hobby, or who has made a significant accomplishment? Are you involved in community outreach? An educational program? A hands-on workshop or training session? Public Affairs wants to know about any and all of these events. There are a variety of ways we can publicize events and accomplishments in the school, but we can’t promote them if we don’t know they’re happening. Keep us informed. Drop us an email and tell us what’s happening. We’ll share the good news.

Public Affairs offers a variety of items to support your events. Do you need a logo banner to showcase at your fair booth? We have a few. Are you serving cold drinks at an event and want something sleeker than a cooler? You can borrow one of our stainless steel beverage tubs. Are you looking for a way for people to take notice? No one can ignore a 6’ inflatable Jayhawk. Visit our website to check out photos of available items and fill out an event support request form to reserve what you need. You can also request an appearance by our energetic and fun Baby Jay. Loved by adults and kids alike, Baby Jay will kick your event up a notch. All Baby Jay appearances must have a direct connection to KUSM-W.

Join Dr. Simari and KUMC leadership for the next Town Hall meeting from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, March 1. Topics covered will include updates on the budget, legislature and dental school. The meeting will be at the School of Nursing in Kansas City and will be broadcast live to Wichita via iTV in the Santa Fe Room. Livestreaming wil l also be available.

All of us here in Public Affairs are available to assist you in a number of ways when it comes to communication, public relations, and marketing. Need something edited or proofread? We can do it. Have a speech to write? We can help. Need a f lier designed? Let us assist you. We can also answer questions you may have about branding, including logo use. As you may know, there are specifics when it comes to that area. If you have a project that is using a logo, run it by our office and we’ll help keep you out of trouble. Basically, contact us for any old thing. We’ll do our best to help you out. [email protected]

The two-hour Safe Zone training will encompass education around the issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. Participants will discuss respectful terminology, transgender concerns, and other topics that will help them become better allies. Upon completion of training, participants may choose to display a Safe Zone logo in their office or workspace. For many people in health professions, “caregiver” is a term that applies in more than one area of life. You might care for patients, for your children, for your parents … or for all of these people! For the person who has multiple caregiving roles, the demands of caregiving can become overwhelming. Stress, fatigue and burnout are not uncommon. At this Wichita Women in Health Professions event, we will hear personal accounts f rom a panel of caregivers with different life experiences, including caring for a parent, spouse or child with a chronic illness. Panelists will share the challenges and joys of caregiving and tips for self-care. WWHP events are open to KUSM-W faculty, staff, students, residents and other interested members of our community.
