usic is a subject that has sparked many debates especially among Muslims.

These debates have been going on for ages. Is music food for soul? Is it good

for us or bad? Do we really need music? Those who are more guided by logic

than faith on this subject, find it even more difficult to come to answers. This article is more

for such people. The influence of music in our daily lives has become so prevalent through

different types of media that life without it seems incomplete to most of us. People seem to

be “hooked-up” to music to the extent that they need it at home, in their cars and even

during outdoor activities. They no longer want it but need it. What is it that attracts us so

much to the music?

Human brain interacts with its surroundings through five senses. It interprets these senses

(including sounds) via electrical impulses and provides desired reactions either in the form

of motion or emotion. You cannot deny the effect of some songs on you. You must have

experienced that you like to listen to some songs over and over again because it gives you

certain feeling, whether a feeling of joy, cheerfulness and happiness or of sadness, etc.

Some songs can trigger specific memories. Sometimes you listen to certain type of music to

complement certain mood that you may have at that time. It can uplift you or depress you.

It is a scientific fact that the effect of music on humans is more than merely having fun.

This is why some scientists are researching on music for healing purposes. There is a whole

science of sound therapy. If you agree with this then you would agree that music has the

power to alter our emotions and behaviors. You would then also agree that the music and

songs produced these days must have certain affect on us. For something that has so much

influence on our lives, we ought to dig deeper to understand its nature and affect on us.

For Muslims, it has been a debated subject whether it is forbidden or not. Some believe that

the evidence against it is circumstantial. Some believe it is not allowed but can’t help it. For

the moment I would continue the discussion on basis of facts that can be substantiated to

avoid any controversy. By the end of this article, you should be able to draw your own

conclusions irrespective of your belief. In the following, when I refer to music, I am

primarily referring to English (Western) music. The music of other regions in the world have

been following the course of Western music so it would be logical to conclude that it will

eventually have the same fate.

When I did some research on the subject, I found a very interesting analogy in a book. The

author drew a parallel between music and alcohol. According to him, both are intoxicating.

Alcohol intoxicates the body which eventually leads to severe illnesses. Music intoxicates the

mind. The “intoxication” of mind is rather subtle and it leads to the corruption of emotions

which leads to irrational behaviors and character. Alcohol is used as a means to escape

reality so is music. Alcohol creates drunkenness which makes a person unaware of its

surroundings so does music (just watch what people do in large musical concerts). When

people are drunk, they sometimes say things that they regret later. Similarly, the lyrics in

some English songs praise Satan and ridicule God or in Indian songs there are many lyrics

that compare God and the lover or ridicule the creation of God. If you ask anybody to deny

or ridicule God, they will not do it because they know it will cost them their faith and yet

people keep on repeating these lyrics under the influence of music, oblivious of the sin they

are committing. The drunkenness can lead a person to adultery because he is unaware of

his actions. Today’s music can also provoke sexual deviance because of its explicit lyrics and

provocative videos.

It is said that alcohol in moderation is beneficial. Similarly it can be argued that not all

music is bad. Well, in Quran it is said that alcohol and gambling have some benefits but the

detriment outweigh the benefit. Same can be said for today’s music. What detriment you

might say?

To understand the detriment of today’s music we have to look at its components and then

the combination of components (popular music) as a medium of communication and the

messages it is communicating. Music can be divided into following two components.

1. Lyrics

2. Musical notes, scores and harmonics

Lyrics could either be a good poetry, objectionable suggestions, vulgar expressions or

outright sinister. People generally are more focused on the musical notes than lyrics

therefore they usually don’t realize what is being absorbed by their subconscious through

the lyrics. Here I will give some examples of lyrics that are being listened widely without

any conscious understanding.

Examples of lyrics in the Indian subcontinent:

a) Thume kis ne banaya Khuda bhi sochta hoga (God must be wondering who created

you)

b) Ek ba’ar muskara do to Khuda muskura uthey (If you smile, God will smile)

c) khuda ko bhi naheen ma’aloom (God doesn’t know either); (Na’ooz-i-biLlah)

d) Many Indian songs that praise Hindu deities (Ram, Krishna, Kali, etc.)

Examples of lyrics in an English song:

Here I am taking one example to elaborate. This is a song by a singer Chris Brown. Notes in

parentheses are the elaboration.

a) If I could take a trip to outer space

She (Satan) would be the one I would see

When I got to heaven’s gate

She would welcome me with her arms open wide

And her smile would shadow me brighter than the sun

She (Satan) hasn’t had a fare chance (meaning God was not fare with Satan)

So I will give her one (meaning he will support her)

Let me tell you who she is, yeah

She is a fallen angel, sent from heaven up above

Take your judgment off her (meaning don’t judge Satan for what he did)

You know maybe I should help her mend her broken wings

So she can fly again (empower him to rule again)

But I don’t wanna lose everything that I’ve gained

It’s turning me a selfish man

Page 4: IS MUSIC FOOD FOR SOUL? - · PDF fileThe influence of music in our daily lives has become so prevalent ... songs produced these days must have certain affect on ... IS MUSIC FOOD FOR

Cause without her my heart doesn’t go no more

I couldn’t take the pain of watching her fly away

So say that you will stay (asking you to help Satan)

Waiting for me to love her (message to love him)

So take your judgment off her

Baby don’t you worry I am gonna help you fly (serve NWO agenda, Satan’s rule)

Just take me under your wings and we can reach the sky

b) Some other examples are:

Madonna’s “If I could melt your heart”

Britney Spears “I am a slave for you”

Famous song “Hotel California”, which by the way is not about any hotel in

California

If you look further closely into the lyrics, you will find countless other examples. Pages after

pages can be filled with these examples. You can pick almost any major singer and analyze

their lyrics and you will find examples like these.

The second and probably the more important aspect are musical notes, scores and

harmonics. To understand this better you need to first understand some scientific principles.

People who have studied physics are familiar with the concept of resonance. Every atom

and molecule in the universe is vibrating at a certain frequency. This frequency depends

upon the amount of energy stored in the atom or molecule. Since all matter living or non-

living is made up of atoms and molecules, it also vibrates at a certain frequency. An object

is in the state of equilibrium if it is vibrating at its natural frequency. To elaborate it more,

take the example of microwave. Similar principle is applied in the microwave ovens where

energy is added to the food which excites the molecules out of it neutral state and thus

generating heat. If you are thinking how it all relates to music, consider the fact that all

sounds are energy waves that are generated by musical instruments. Based on the above

explained principle these energy waves depending on their frequencies must have certain

affect on the human body. To demonstrate the affect of music on human body, I would

present some excerpt from people knowledgeable in this field. One example is the famous

demonstration of breaking glass by a high pitch sound. Here, I will quote a paragraph from

a book:

“………Perhaps you have seen the demonstration of the breaking of a glass by

synchronizing high frequency vibrations with the vibrations of the chemical

combination of the molecules in the glass. This in a word picture is what may happen

physiologically to the human body when dancing frantically to rock music……..”

(Larson, Bob -The Day Music Died, p.124)

When a body resonates at a frequency that matches the frequency of an adjacent body, it

can excite the other body producing desirable or undesirable results.

Some people who are researching in this field say that music can be dangerous to the

human or animal body. Following are some excerpts from different sources.

Dr. Adam Knieste, a musicologist who studies the effects of music upon people

noted:"……………It's really a powerful drug. Music can poison you, lift your spirits, or

make you sick without knowing why…….." (Family Weekly Magazine, January 30,

1983, p. 12, article by David Chagall)

"…………Music is used everywhere to condition the human mind. It can be just as

powerful as a drug and much more dangerous, because nobody takes musical

manipulation very seriously……..." (Family Weekly, January 30, 1983, p. 15)

"…….. Music is more than a language. It is the language of languages. It can be said

that of all the arts, there is none other than more powerfully moves and changes the

consciousness……" (Tame, David. The Secret Power of Music, p.151)

Dr. Howard Hanson, of the famous Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester,

and one of the authorities on music, stated: "………Music is a curiously subtle art with

innumerable, varying emotional connotations. It is made up of many ingredients and

according to the proportions of those components; it can be soothing or invigorating,

ennobling or vulgarizing, philosophical or orgiastic. It has powers for evil as well

as for good……." (The American Journal of Psychiatry, vol. 99, p.317)

Tim Fisher, former music professor, and founder of Sacred Music Services, gives this

excellent analogy in his book, The Battle for Christian Music: "……..Perhaps some of

you are asking yourselves the question, but how can a musical note be inherently

good or bad? Aren't notes just a matter of pitch variation, tonal vibration,

compressions and decompressions of air? Those are fair questions; let’s look at this

more closely. Years ago I heard a tape of a man who was defending the neutrality of

music in a public service. He walked over to the piano and played a C major chord.

Then, he asked the audience if it was a good C major chord or an evil C major chord.

After some scattered laughter, he said `See, there's no such thing as good or evil

music,' He made a rather obvious mistake, however, in his reasoning: a C major

chord isn't music! It is a building block of music-and there's a big difference."

Take the English language, for example. If I write the letter 'e', is that a good 'e' or a

bad 'e'? Neither. As a building block of the English language it is a neutral entity.

However, I as a creative writer can put that letter in conjunction with other letters

and communicate something like...

Praise the Lord

or

I hate God.

In both of the above usages I have taken neutral letters and put them together to

communicate something to you. However, what I have communicated is definitely

not neutral, and my intent is clearly conveyed……. "(Fisher, Tim The Battle for

Christian Music, pp 60-61)

Lowell Hart in his book, Satan's Music Exposed, writes of the following experiment:

"……..The unsuspecting "guinea- pigs" were a teenage boy and girl. They had never

met previously and were completely unaware of any strange happenings.

Unfortunately for them, as they sat getting acquainted in a cozy "private" room with

soft music playing in the background, their reactions were being observed and

recorded. When classical music and soft ballads were piped into the room they talked

and were friendly, but somewhat aloof. When pop music and jazz were played they

quickly developed a much "friendlier" attitude and began to hold hands and put their

arms around each other. When the music changed back to classical and ballads they

would again become more formal and reserved. If the music would swing back to the

jazz and pop music their formality would give way to familiarity……."(Hart, Lowell

Satan’s Music Exposed, p.63)

Professor Alan Bloom, professor of social thought at the University of Chicago, who

has also taught at Yale, the University of Paris, the University of Toronto, Cornell and

many other schools, writes in his best-selling book, The Closing of the American

Mind:

"……Nothing is more singular about this generation than its addiction to music. It is

their passion; nothing else excites them as it does; they cannot take seriously

anything alien to music. I suspect that the rock addiction, particularly in the absence

of strong counter attractions, has an effect similar to that of drugs….." (Bloom, Alan

The Closing of the American Mind, pp 68...81)

Another "proof" of the effects of music on a person is the billion dollar industry called Muzak

or "mood songs". Muzak is the "mood music" that is piped into stores, airports, doctor

offices, et. al. in order to "create an atmosphere". The book, Elevator Music by Joseph

Lanza, tells the history of Muzak and other mood songs. Lanza describes an episode at the

Hilton in Las Vegas when rock music was used as the "mood song". And because of the rock

music, some customers experienced petit mal seizures! Lanza writes, "A doctor friend, a

psychiatrist, later told me that this kind of pulsation might create problems...” (Lanza,

Joseph Elevator Music, p.142)

Lanza also states, "Some background music has been known to induce musicogenic

epilepsy, triggering a chemical brain reaction that elicits thoughts of suicide or murder.

Doctors had documented seventy-six similar cases." (Lanza, Joseph Elevator Music, p.194)

Lanza also makes this startling statement: ". . . music designed to soothe can be altered to

torment…….."(Lanza, Joseph Elevator Music, p.196)

"……..Like human nature itself, music cannot possibly be neutral in its spiritual

direction, ultimately all uses of tone and all musical lyrics can be classified according

to their spiritual direction, upward or downward. To put it plainly, music tends to be

of either the darkness or of the light…… (Tame, David The Secret Power of

Music, 1984 p.187).

Imtiaz Alam 7 | P a g e

"…….It is almost impossible to overstate the absurdity of the claim that music is

neutral, amoral, or void of communication by itself. Those who have looked beyond

the current music publications know that no one has ever taken the position that

music is neutral except for Christians in the last twenty-five years who are trying to

justify bringing rock into the church……."(Fisher, Tim The Battle for Christian Music,

pp.52...56)

"…….Some would have us believe that all music is a-moral and that it is only the

words that make it Christian or not. I beg to differ with this philosophy! Music in

itself is a language which can capture and control the very thoughts and

actions of an individual, a crowd, or a nation. It is the fountainhead for good or

for evil! As one must be discerning in the device of their friends and their food for a

happy and healthy life so we must be careful and prayerful in the music we chose to

listen to or sing……." (Hart, Lowell Satan's Music Exposed, foreword)

"……..More than any other form of the misuse of sound, it is rock with which we must

deal today. It is a global phenomenon; a pounding, pounding destructive beat which

is heard from America and Western Europe to Africa and Asia. Its effect upon the

soul is to make nigh-impossible the true inner silence and peace necessary for the

contemplation of eternal verities. How necessary is it in this age for some to have

the courage to be the ones who are `different', and to separate themselves out from

the pack who long ago sold their lives and personalities to this sound. I adamantly

believe that rock in all its forms is a critical problem which our civilization must get to

grips if it wishes long to survive………" (Tame, David The Secret Power of Music, 1984

p. 204).

In all of the above excerpts, it's worth noting, that these people were not talking about

"lyrics" but simply the instrumental music. Music has a profound effect upon the mind.

The third aspect of the music is the combination of its components (popular music) as a

medium of communication and the messages it is communicating. To understand this we

have to see what is being communicated in today’s songs and musical videos. What is

happening in today’s music? What is the common theme? You may be surprised to know

that most of the people who have undertaken to expose the hidden dangers of today’s

music are Christians. For them, their faith does not prohibit them from music but still they

could see the problem. One good attempt I found from Muslims is by the creators of “The

Arrivals”. Unfortunately, from Muslim scholars except for a few, we don’t see such an effort

anymore. We tend to follow the policy of don’t know and don’t want to know.

People who have been researching this subject have concluded that today’s popular music is

being used as a tool to manipulate and desensitize people. It is a tool to promote nudity

and obscenity. It is a tool to promote occult and above all, Satan worshiping. The extent of

Satan worshiping involved in the music these days is staggering. In today's music videos

there are actual occult rituals, Satan worshiping rituals and demon calling rituals being

performed openly. People see it, enjoy it, and by being there or watching it on TV and

repeating the lyrics, they actually take part in it. It is also said that there are certain songs

Page 8: IS MUSIC FOOD FOR SOUL? - · PDF fileThe influence of music in our daily lives has become so prevalent ... songs produced these days must have certain affect on ... IS MUSIC FOOD FOR

with wordings that are actually used to channel demons (jinns, beings of fire) to infiltrate

into people’s lives. All of this is hidden in plain sight through carefully crafted lyrics and

videos.

Troubling fact is that the people mostly affected are not the mature adults but the kids in

their teens and twenty's who are still not mature enough, vulnerable and are so brain

washed and indoctrinated by the media (like the rest of us)that they can't differentiate good

from bad. For the curious minds of younger generation it’s not enough to just say that the

music is bad. They want to know why? This brings us to two actions, one to understand

ourselves the nature of today’s music and second to satisfy their curiosity.

There are many sources that you can use to evaluate all this and see what is hidden in plain

sight but I would recommend the following in the order listed. These are all video links. As

the saying goes, picture speaks a thousand words. I have chosen to use the videos to

describe what would take volumes to do.

1. Couple of short video interviews:

http://www.youtube.com/rogermorneau#p/u/12/vQ7vHuuUSWE. This interview is of

an ex-Satan worshipper Roger Morneau. If you like, you can watch the whole

interview at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrxXK_a3dXw&feature=related (A

Trip into the Supernatural). A transcript of this interview is also attached

http://www.youtube.com/rogermorneau#p/u/13/wDHBEod_ZR8

2. This is another important video clip. In it, some of the famous artists of today such

as Katy Perry, Kanye West, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Bob Dylan are openly

accepting that they have sold their soul to the devil. This is actually true for most of

the famous artists. Their overnight fame did not come without a price. Do you think

people who have sold their soul to Satan have done it just to produce good music

and there is no hidden sinister agenda behind it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDM7D1teDco

3. This video is of an interview with John Todd who was a former illuminati and a

member of their council of 13. It was recorded in 1970.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otti-82jEAc(Demons behind the music industry)

4. In the documentary series “The Arrivals” there are some segments on the sorcery of

music. You can watch the original version of it at

http://www.arrivals.technocrazed.com/. I would urge you to watch the whole series

for enlightenment but since it is quite long (51 parts), at least watch Episode 11 -

Musical Sorcery, Episode 12 - Light Up The Darkness, Episode 13 - Lady In Red,

Episode 14 - Hollywood, and Episode 22 - Our Satanic Pop Culture.

5. Last but not the least, here is a web site called “The Industry Exposed” at

http://theindustryexposed.com/. The maker of this series has said the following in

the introduction:

“This series is about showing the hidden rituals, occult connections,

freemason symbolism, demonic possession, subliminal messages and much

more in the music industry”

In this series also, you will see that famous singers like Madonna and Bob Dylan

have admitted openly that they have sold their sole to Satan for fame and money

and they are carrying out his plan

I would urge you to watch the whole series but since it is quite long (69 parts so far

and adding…), at least watch (in the order listed) Parts 0, 59, 43, 9, 10, 13, 23, 25,

33, 35, 46, 50 and 51. Parts 59 and 43 are especially interesting as it will show you

the intention behind all that is being produced in the name of music. I must caution

you that some parts are quite obscene and graphic so use discretion. When I

stumbled upon this web site, I was shocked by the extreme perversion displayed in

today's music videos.

There are countless other examples on the YouTube.

It is imperative that you watch all above referenced videos, without which you

cannot understand the gravity of the issue. When you watch and listen to these music

videos keep in mind that this is what your kids are watching and listening to. If they are not

old enough yet, soon they will be.

These days children are generally more inclined towards Western culture and music

therefore, the threat is more immediate for them. So is the need for us to understand the

nature of threat and act accordingly.

The music industry in Middle East and Indian sub-continent has not reached that stage yet

but it is on its way. The sexuality, obscenity and questionable lyrics are already there.

Occultism is yet to show up. It cannot be denied that certain musical notes and harmonics,

especially in older music were soothing and relaxing. Also, the lyrics were meaningful but

the fine line between good music and bad music has been blurred over time. A point to note

is that forty years or so ago the movie and music industry in the subcontinent had different,

much more stringent moral and ethical standards compared to today. The vulgarity in the

lyrics and exposure in the videos were unusual. One must ponder what is it which in the last

forty to fifty years, drove the moral and ethical standards to these lows. This lowering of the

moral and ethical standards has been happening across the globe. It would be unwise to

think that this is the natural flow of things. If this is not the natural flow of things then it

must be intentional. It must be designed and premeditated. To understand this, one must

read The Protocols of the Meetings of the Learned Elders of Zion by Victor E.

Marsden. You can find soft copy of this book at

http://merahza.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/przion2protocol.pdf

Following excerpts from the book will give some insight:

………WHEN THE HOUR STRIKES FOR OUR SOVEREIGN LORD OF ALL THE WORLD TO BE

CROWNED IT IS THESE SAME HANDS WHICH WILL SWEEP AWAY EVERYTHING THAT MIGHT

BE A HINDRANCE THERETO.(The Biblical "Anti-Christ?") ………..(Protocol 3)

……..IT IS INDISPENSABLE FOR US TO UNDERMINE ALL FAITH, TO TEAR OUT OF THE MIND

OF THE "GOYIM" THE VERY PRINCIPLE OF GOD-HEAD AND THE SPIRIT, AND TO PUT IN ITS

PLACE ARITHMETICAL CALCULATIONS AND MATERIAL NEEDS………..(Protocol 4)

Another darker aspect of the music industry and of the entertainment industry in general

(movies, commercials, etc.) is the aspect of mind controlling through subliminal messaging.

This is a complex subject that requires a separate discussion. But, just to give an idea of the

types of possible mind controlling and subliminal messaging techniques used in today’s

media and also by military industrial complex, I have attached a list of patents in Appendix-

1, that have been filed in the US in the last forty years. Here, I would mention a couple of

them:

1. USP # 5128765 (July 7, 1992)

System for Implementing the Synchronized Superimposition of Subliminal

Signals

Dingwall, Robert

Abstract --- An apparatus and system for the controlled delivery of a subliminal video

and/or audio message on to a source signal from a video tape player or similar. The

source signal is divided into audio and video portions. A video processor reads

synchronization information from the source signal. A controller transmits a stored

subliminal image at designated times to a mixer amplifier fully synchronized with the

source signal. Concurrently, an audio subliminal message is applied to the source

audio at a volume level regulated at some fraction to the source audio. The

combined signals are transmitted to a monitor for undistracted viewing.

2. USP # 6011991 (January 4, 2000)

Communication System & Method Including Brain Wave Analysis...

Mardirossian, Aris

Abstract --- A system and method for enabling human beings to communicate by

way of their monitored brain activity. The brain activity of an individual is monitored

and transmitted to a remote location (e.g. by satellite). At the remote location, the

monitored brain activity is compared with pre-recorded normalized brain activity

curves, waveforms, or patterns to determine if a match or substantial match is

found. If such a match is found, then the computer at the remote location

determines that the individual was attempting to communicate the word, phrase, or

thought corresponding to the matched stored normalized signal.

3. USP # 5507291 (April 16, 1996)

Method & Apparatus for Remotely Determining Information as to Person's

Emotional State

Page 11: IS MUSIC FOOD FOR SOUL? - · PDF fileThe influence of music in our daily lives has become so prevalent ... songs produced these days must have certain affect on ... IS MUSIC FOOD FOR

Imtiaz Alam 11 | P a g e

Stirbl, et al.

Abstract --- In a method for remotely determining information relating to a person's

emotional state, a waveform energy having a predetermined frequency and a

predetermined intensity is generated and wirelessly transmitted towards a remotely

located subject. Waveform energy emitted from the subject is detected and

automatically analyzed to derive information relating to the individual's emotional

state. Physiological or physical parameters of blood pressure, pulse rate, pupil size,

respiration rate and perspiration level are measured and compared with reference

values to provide information utilizable in evaluating interviewee's responses or

possibly criminal intent in security sensitive areas.

Examples 2 and 3 are particularly important as it brings the concept of “Thought Policing”

and “Thought Crime”, a term that has been used in media and movies for some time now.

What it means is that in the name of security and war against terror, the infringement on

personal freedom will come to a point where not only the physical actions of everybody will

be monitored but also their thoughts. Legislations will be passed for convicting people on

their intents, no need to wait for people to actually commit a crime. Entertainment media,

both movies and music industry has been promoting these concepts to desensitize the

minds so when it actually happens; it isn’t much of an issue. Movie “Minority Report” (Tom

Cruise) was based on this concept with a different spin. Another movie “Nineteen Eighty-

Four” (sometimes 1984) depict the life of a common person after the new world order,

which by judging on the basis of “security” measure being implemented by governments,

don’t seem too far off. Discovery channel has recently aired a show where they discussed

that scientists have developed MRI like machine that can read thoughts. Currently it is in its

initial stages. I hope you can see that the media is working hand in hand with powers to be

to implement measures, and media is the spring board or the testing ground to test the

reaction of masses.

I would urge you to read the short description attached to each patent number so that you

can take a guess at the intent and the extent of their application. You can check these

patents at the web site: Patent Online Database Search.

This article is an effort to share some little known facts about the nature of music and the

global music industry and the entertainment industry. It is an attempt to understand some

of the reasons why music has been deemed prohibited in Islam. In Islamic ideology

prohibition from music is a matter of faith. Faith demands absolute submission, without any

doubt. Since faith and rationalization are opposite to each other therefore, people who try to

rationalize the prohibition of music usually end up with no certain answers. Hopefully, this

article would help. Today, the ignorance of Muslims towards Quran has given them the

“courage” to challenge many facets of the Islamic ideology. Muslims have customized Islam

to fit in their life style. Acceptance of music as a norm is but one example.

After evaluating all of this and having watched the referenced videos, I hope you would see

that whether prohibited or not, today’s entertainment industry is a threat to any society that

wants to maintain any decent moral standard. If you also consider the involvement of the

technologies as referenced in the Appendix-1, this threat gets even greater. Today’s popular

electronic and print media (movies, music, reality shows, magazines, novels, etc.) are

working towards one goal, one sole purpose which is the demoralization of nations. If you

are wondering why then know this, a person who is desensitized, has no moral grounds to

stand on. And, a person who stands for nothing can fall for anything.
