FOREWORD

This Indian Standard ( Third Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after thedraft finalized by the Builder's Hardware Sectional Committee had been approved by the CivilEngineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1966 and revised in 1971. In this revision, followingimportant changes have been incorporated:

a) In material, one more material, that is, Grade D of IS 513 : 1986 'Cold-rolled low carbonsteel sheets and strips ( thirdrevtsion )' has been added.

b) One more type of hinges, that is, Type IV Continuous ( Piano) hinges has been added.

For the yurpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied withthe fina value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall berounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 'Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)'.The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as thatof the specified value in this standard.

B-2 NUMBER OF TESTS AND CRITERIAFOR CONFORMITY

8-2.1 All the hinges selected according to 8-1.3shall be examined for dimensional requirements( see 4 ), manufacture ( see5) and finish( see6). Any hinges which ralls to satisfy oneor more of these requirements shall be considered as defective.

B-2.2 The lot shall be declared. as conformingto the requirements of this specification if thenumber of defectives found in the sample is lessthan or equal to the corresponding permissiblenumber of defectives given in column 3 ofTable 2.

8-1 SCALE OF SAMPLING '

8-1.1 Lot

In any consignment, all the continuous( piano ) hinges of the same type, designationand manufactured from the identical materialshall be grouped together to constitute a lot.

8-1.2 For ascertaining the conformity of material to the requirements of this specification, samples shall be tested from each lot sepa-rately. .

8-1.3 The number of hinges to be selected froma lot shall depend on the size of the lot andshall be in accordance with column 1 and 2 ofTable 2.

8-1.3.1 These hinges shall be selected atrandom from the lot. In order to ensure therandomness of selection, procedures given inIS 4905 : 1968 may be followed.

8-1.3.2 For this purpose, at least 10 percent ofthe packages subject to a minimum of threepackages shall be selected and equal number ofhinges shall be selected from each suchpackage.
