Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID). The term “functional” is generally applied to disorders where the body’s normal activities in terms of the movement of the intestines, the sensitivity of the nerves of the intestines, or the way in which the brain controls some of these functions is impaired. IBS is a group of colon disorders characterized by abdominal pain and discomfort, bloating, and sometimes bouts of diarrhoea and/or constipation. Symptoms tend to come and go. Diagnosis is based on signs and symptoms in the absence of worrisome features. There is no cure for IBS, but symptoms can often be eased with treatment.

What causes IBSIt is not known exactly what causes IBS, but a variety of factors play a role. IBS symptoms may begin following an episode of diarrhoea. Mechanism of ActionThe active ingredients are the natural mineral clay magnesium aluminium silicate (also known as diosmectite or bentonite) and a polysilicon simethicone.
