International Collaboration in the Fields of Water TechnologiesThe “Achi Recov” School of Engineering at the Kinneret Academic College
OVERVIEWAgricultural irrigation consumes about 70% of global potable water resources. As water scarcity
increases and water quality decreases, efficient use of water and wastewater reuse for irrigation is a
must.
The Irrigation Engineering course is aimed at providing its professional participants with modern
tools for planning, establishing, running and managing effective and efficient irrigation solutions.
COURSE STRUCTUREThe course will take place over 14 days. 10 days will be dedicated to lectures by engineers, academic
and industry professionals and 4 days will be dedicated to excursions exhibiting the Israeli experience
in a rigorous agriculture environment and the use of alternative water resources such as desalinated
water and treated wastewater. Each professional touring day will include sightseeing of historical and
holy sites.
LECTURERS 1. Applied Hydraulics, practical water pumping and water conveyance under pressure and in
gravitation. Different water sources. Pumping stations.
2. General water table. Design of large water mains.
3. Valves. Control and Regulation of flow and pressure.
4. Water Hammer prevention. Air Relieve Valves.
5. Hydraulic review of irrigation methods, under pressurized and gravity irrigation.
6. The suitability of irrigation methods for various soils, topography and plants.
7. Sprinklers and mini sprinklers. Sprinkler irrigation system design.
8. Drippers. Drip irrigation system design.
9. Computerized irrigation systems design.
10. Irrigation System Head: Pressure and flow measuring.
11. Irrigation Head: Water emitters clogging prevention – Filtration.
12. Irrigation Head: Fertilization and disinfection.
13. Irrigation management. Control systems. Moisture gauges monitors and other equipment for wise
and efficient management of the irrigation (water and energy efficient).
COURSE TOURS 1. A Desalination plants – a tour to either Hadera or Ashkelon seawater desalination plants. Both
of the largest SWRO desalination plants on the world, producing more than 300,000 cum/day of
desalinated water.
2. The National Water Carrier – the major water supply system of Israel, pumping, treating and
conveying up to 1.7 million cum/day of potable, industrial and agricultural water consumption.
3. Visit to Netafim Magal, greenhouses and crop fields which are irrigated with effluents of treated
wastewater at its surrounding.
4. Water technologies manufacturing – A visit to the disc filter manufacturing plant of Amiad-Arkal and
the pump manufacturing plant of Hamechadesh.
5. Visits to automatic control plants of flow and pressure, monitored by Bermad Valves.

Citizenship from the country of origin.
ABOUT THE REGIONThe Kinneret Region, a thriving and picturesque place located in the North of Israel is the main source
of precious water, a place where famous Jewish texts were written, Christianity was born, great
medieval battles were fought and great prophets and sages are buried.
Since prehistoric times, people have been attracted to the Kinneret region because of its abundant
waters, warm climate and fertile land.
Kinneret Academic College was built on the southern shores of the Sea of Galilee in a historically
significant and multicultural region. Surrounded by magnificent views of the lake and the hills of the
Galilee, the College was established in the heart where thousands of years of history took place, infused
into the region’s landscape.
Kinneret region was the birthplace of the kibbutz movement. Today, in a setting located at the historical
intersection of different religions, culture and ideologies, that have impacted the whole of humanity,
Kinneret Academic College offers its students the experience of unique, innovative and practical study
programs inspired by the natural and social environment.
