Sony Remote Cable/Satellite Box & Bluray Instructions

The Sony Android Smart TV’s are capable controlling your Cable or Satellite box & Bluray player by only using the Sony TV remote. After the IR Blaster is setup accessing the Cable or Satellite box menu items are done with the “Action Menu” button on the Sony TV Remote. To change channels or adjust volume use the normal CH and VOL + and – buttons at the bottom of the Sony TV remote.

1) How do I turn my Cable/Satellite box on or off with the Sony TV remote?When your turn on your TV with the green power button if you see a black screen with no picture you will need to turn your cable box on. The TV will also say “No Signal….” In the bottom right corner. If you see a picture you do not need to perform this step.

A. To turn your cable box on press the “Action Menu” button near the center of the Sony TV remote. It is circled in red in the remote picture below.

B. Now use the white arrow keys just below the Action Menu button. Press the right arrow button and move to the right to select the Menu column. Under the menu column will be commands that control your cable or satellite box when you are watching that. “Power (STB)” will be selected in white. Press the center cross button between the four arrows to select “Power STB”. This is the power button to turn your box on or off. After you select this your picture should appear.

C. To get out of this action menu press the blue “Back” button in the middle of the remote to the left of the white arrow buttons until this menu disappears.

2) The picture above shows the different options you can select to control your cable or satellite box. If you have a box that is a DVR and can record items you will want to use the Guide (STB), and List in this menu. When you are watching your box and would like to find a program you would like to record, you will want to select the Guide (STB) from this menu. Access this menu just like you did before by pressing the “Action Menu” button on the Sony remote and using the white arrow buttons to arrow to the right until the Menu Column is selected. You will then arrow down to select the feature you want. After you arrow down, you would then press the white cross button between the four white arrows to select the function you want in this menu.

A. For example if you wanted to select the guide from your box, you would press “action menu”, then arrow to the right to select the menu column. Then arrow down to “Guide (STB)” and press the white cross between your arrow buttons. This would then bring up the guide from your cable box. At this time you use your arrow buttons to select the day and time of the show you want. When you have selected your show you would press the white cross button between the arrows to select this show. Then you would follow the menu instructions to record this show.

B. PLEASE NOTE the Guide button on the remote will show you your guide of channels, however you will not be able to select programs to record through this guide. To record shows you must use the Guide (STB) function through the Action menu button on the Sony Remote.

3) How do I select the list of shows I have recorded on my box with the Sony TV remote? You would follow the same procedure to access your boxes menu, by pressing “action menu”, then arrow to the right to select the menu column. Then arrow down to “List” and press the white cross between your arrow buttons. This would then bring up the guide from your cable box. At this time you use your arrow buttons to select the day and time of the show you want. When you have selected your show you would press the white cross button between the arrows to select this show. Then you would follow the menu instructions to record this show.

4) I have a DVR box, how do I pause, fast forward or rewind live TV with this Sony TV remote? Easy, just use the pause, play, rewind, and fast forward buttons at the bottom of the Sony TV remote. These buttons are circled red in the picture below.

5) Can I record the current show I am watching without accessing my boxes guide menu? Yes. You would follow the same procedure to access your boxes menu, by pressing “action menu”, then arrow to the right to select the media controls column. Then arrow down to “REC (STB)” and press the white cross between your arrow buttons. This would start recording the current show you are watching and add it to your DVR.

The three pictures below show the common buttons you will be using on your Sony TV remote to access your box settings. These are the Action Menu, the White arrow buttons with the white cross in between, & the play, pause, rewind, fast forward etc…buttons. To take the Action menu off the screen press the back button until it disappears.

Accessing your Sony Bluray (DVD) player with the Sony TV remote

Can I access and control my Sony Bluray (DVD) player with my Sony TV remote? YES. On the Sony TV remote press the “Sync Menu” button at the top left of the remote. This button is directly under the “Input” button. When you do you will see a Sync Menu screen appear on the left side of the TV. “Select connected Device” will be highlighted in white. Press the white cross button in the middle of the remote to select this. The white cross button is between the four white arrow buttons. When you select your connected device, your DVD player will automatically be selected. IF you see a second menu appear showing multiple units to select, choose the unit that says, BD, Player 1 BD, or Sony BD. In the pictures below you will see these items.

D. If the DVD does not play, then press the Play button at the bottom of the Sony TV remote to access your DVD.

Once you have accessed your DVD player with the Sony TV remote, you can use the arrow, and cross buttons in the middle of the remote along with the

play, pause, stop, rewind, fast forward and other buttons at the bottom of the remote to control your DVD player.

If you want to access the menu of your DVD this is done with the “Action Menu” button on the Sony TV remote. Press “Action Menu”, then arrow to the right to select the menu column. Now arrow down to “Content List” so that it is selected in white. Press the white cross between your arrow buttons, your DVD menu will now load. Content List will bring up the menu of your DVD disc where you can select chapters, and other disc features. This menu is shown in the picture below.

6) How do I return to my TV programming when I am done?

Simple. Just press the TV button at the center left side of the remote, the TV will return to the cable or satellite input. This button is shown in the picture to the right.
