When the audience knows what the characters in the story don’t know. In Act I we knew that Macbeth was going to receive a promotion, but he did not know it.
Dramatic Irony (continued)
In a story, the wife plans a surprise party for her husband. The husband comes home to a dark house and says, “All I want is a quiet evening”. We know that there is a surprise coming and the husband does not.
Situational Irony (box 4)
An event that is contrary (opposite) to what you expected
