The iron separator is a magnetic attraction equipment that creates strong magnetic field through a combination of permanent magnet formed by coil windings or permanent magnetic materials. It is suitable to be used with belt conveyors, vibrating conveyors or other conveying equipment. It can effectively remove ferromagnetic materials (weight of 0.1-35kg each) mixed in non-magnetic bulk materials with a separation rate about 95%. It is helpful to not only refine and improve the raw materials and finished products but also recycle various ferromagnetic substances. It acts as a protective role in preventing grinding machines’, crushing machines’ and other mechanical equipment’s damage and wear. It can also protect the belt conveyors by preventing belt tear.

Iron separators are widely used in metallurgy, mining, thermal power plants, ceramics, glass, cement, building materials, chemicals, papermaking & fodder industries. The emerging waste treatment industries are also in need of electromagnetic iron separators to recycle iron and steel that is mixed in the garbage.

1 An Overview

2.1 Hanging Track Selection:

Track number: Belt-type iron separators generally use double track hanging, and disc-type iron separators use single track hanging.Track directions: Iron separators hang above the head of the belt conveyor (generally sloping installation), the track can be fixed in the same or vertical direction to the belt conveyor. Iron separators hang above midpoint of the belt conveyor (sloping or horizontal), the track is generally placed perpendicular to the conveyor belt (except RCDY-J series suspension-type combination recycling iron separators, the track of which should be fixed in the same direction to the belt conveyor)Track selection: Select according to the recommended I-beam types in the table given below (based on bridge crane’s wheel span and rated working load). According to I-beam span and site arrangement, customers can determine the specific model.

2.2 Running Device Selection:

Belt-type (electromagnetic/permanent magnetic) iron separators give preference to dual track and manually operated bridge crane and 4-point suspension and the performance will be stable. Light duty belt-type iron separators can use single track, dual crane (dual manually operated bridge crane) or dual track, dual crane hanging. When particularly needed, customized and manually operated combination bridge-crane frame can be used.Disc-type electromagnetic iron separators usually use single track and single electrically operated bridge crane, single track single crane hanging in order to realize manual controlled/ program controlled iron discharge. They can also use single track, single manually operated bridge crane hanging (including explosion proof-type power-cut iron discharge iron separators, manually operated permanent magnetic iron separators, etc). Heavy duty iron separators can use single track (or dual track) dual electric bridge crane with bridge crane frame hanging.

3 Disc-type Electromagnetic Iron Separator’s Power-cut Iron

4 RCDA Series Disc-typeSuspension Air-cooled

3.1 Discharge Method:

For disc-type electromagnetic iron separators, use (electric or manually operated) bridge crane to hang iron separators. When iron separators attract enough iron pieces, move the bridge crane, thus moving the iron separators outside the conveyor belt. After that cut the excitation source. Then power-cut discharge of iron will be done.Electric bridge crane suspension disc-type iron separators can be alternately run on one or two rowed belt conveyors. During alternate run, the two iron separators move on to the belt conveyor alternately. Assure that there is one iron separator working on the belt conveyor at any time. And ensure zero-leakage and reliable iron separation.Both of the above two methods can be matched to the corresponding rectifying cabinets, either single or dual controlled; and also near-by or long-range controlled, the usage of which is very convenient.

Note:1. By all means, anyone with magnetic cards, wrist watches, iron and other magnetic materials should not get close to electromagnetic iron separators in operation. Moreover don’t directly use hand to remove iron pieces, otherwise major accidents, human injuries or damage to the item would happen.2. According to different conditions, customers can select iron separators of various models and standards. Iron separators of special models and standards can be individually customized. When the electronic-controlled iron separators are in use, reliable earthing must be maintained.3. The cables connecting the control cabinet and iron separators shall be loaded into the cable bridge, routing pipe or the shield which can prevent mechanical damage. 4. Iron separators should be used according to the requirements. Electric control cabinet (box) have rated frequently used power source voltage: AC380V/220V, AC660V, AC1140V,50Hz for selection. Special voltages will be made only on the approval by both parties.

Customers must specify the required power supply modes, main parameters, components selection, usage requirement etc. in the order contract or technical agreement. The iron separator’s electric control cabinet must be labeled with the power voltage and usage conditions. The customer’s power grid must not exceed the electromagnetic iron separator electric control cabinet’s rated value by ±5%. Decrease in the rated value will reduce the attraction capacity; and increase in the rated value will aggravate coil heating and shorten its life-span. General working temperature of permanent magnetic iron separators must not be higher than 80℃.5. Because the iron separator is large in dimension and heavy in weight, during lifting, transportation, maintenance, service process high attention must be paid to the suspension device’s reliability, and safety should be ensured.6. For any permanent magnetic iron separator, safety must be noted anytime. Because the magnetic field of the magnet box is very strong, don’t use any iron and magnet case to get close to it during transportation, warehousing, storage, loading, operation, maintenance, etc. Anyone with magnetic cards, wrist watches; iron and other magnetic materials should not get close to the electromagnetic iron separators’ magnet box in any working condition. Moreover don’t directly place the permanent magnetic iron separator on the iron plate. This must be noticed so as to avoid major accidents, human injuries or damage to the item.

4.2 Design Characteristics :This iron separator uses forced blower motor for cooling, which is simple and easy to operate. The iron separators are suitable for production lines with large grain size substances, little dust but more iron content.� It uses pancake coils to increase air passage and increase the contact area of air in the coils, making the effect of air cooling better.� Use of axial flow motors increase wind pressure, air volume and ensures air cooling effect.� The control cabinet uses interlocking mechanism. After the blower motor starts working, the iron separator begins to work. If the motor fails to work, the iron separator excitation stops and gives alarm.

4.3 Product Application:It is used in coal, mining, steel, chemicals, building materials, power plant and other industries to remove ferromagnetic material from dry coal, coke, limestone, gravel and other loose materials.

* The attraction capability of the magnetic iron separator is represented by the height to which the GB5782-88M16*50 bolt is attracted in the still air.

5.2 Design Characteristics :�As a fully enclosed self-cooling structure, it is effectively waterproof, dustproof, corrosion resistant, thus suitable for use in various working conditions.�Because of our temperature control technology (patent no. ZL 96116864.1) to increase the number of turns in the coil and decrease the electric current density on condition that the main parameters (IN) of the magnetic properties remain unchanged, it greatly reduces the heat source, effectively regulates the temperature rise and substantially increases the life span.�It uses high-performance insulating material, making insulation quality better. Filled with magnesium oxide, good insulation and cooling effect are ensured.

5.3 Product Application:This series of magnetic iron separators are fully enclosed, which helps make the surface magnetic field spread better and allow greater magnetic depth, thus suitable for iron separation on belt conveyors with high speed and thicker bed of materials. It is easy to attract the magnetic substances of 0.1~35kg from mixed non-magnetic particles. A frame machine, roller and an iron discharging belt with scrapping plate are added to form an automatic iron discharge magnetic iron separator. Because of our temperature control technology (patent no. ZL96116864.1) to increase the number of turns in the coil and decrease the electric current density on condition that the main parameters (IN) of the magnetic properties remain unchanged, it greatly reduces the heat source, effectively regulates the temperature rise and substantially increases the life span.�It uses cycloid-pin wheel reduction gears instead of oil cooled roller to unload the iron, thus it is reliable, convenient in iron discharge and simple in maintenance.Product Application:�This series of magnetic iron separators are fully enclosed, which helps make the surface magnetic field spread better and allow greater magnetic depth, thus suitable for iron separation on belt conveyors with high speed and thicker bed of materials. Design Characteristics :1.RCDY-Jseries Suspension Assembly Recycling-type Iron separator is a new iron separating equipment which is developed for steel plant, pier and other industries to recycle the ferromagnetic ore during separating irons, it integrates attracting iron, separating iron ore, collecting ore and discharging iron, these activities are separated in terms of space during the process but can constantly work on in terms of time. The production work will not be suspended despite of iron discharging; also, it can realize the purpose of program control, automatic work by means of linking the belt conveyor. If it is used with metal detector, it will shorten the iron discharging time, so that it can improve the working efficiency. The magnetic iron separator structure is simple, safe, reliable and easy for maintenance. Meanwhile, some parts are adopted with permanent magnetic structure, so it has the advantages of energy conservation and consumption reduction, which greatly save a lot of maintenance cost2. The magnetic iron separator consists of host machine , control cabinet and other components, and it can be applied with metal detector, the distance between magnetic iron separator and metal detector is determined by the speed of materials conveyor, it usually needs 8-10 seconds, in this way electromagnetic iron separator can exert its utmost effect on attracting irons 3. Design Characteristics:1. Iron Separator Installation and TestingThe iron separators are divided into suspension type or pipeline type according to usage. The pipeline-type iron separators generally dock with on-site pipes directly through the flange. Also the iron separator body can be installed into a customized frame body according to the site usage. The suspension-type iron separator’s installation depends on the iron separator’s model and usage:1.Generally there are two kinds of installation methods for the suspension-type iron separators: attached drawings are method 1 and method 2. They often adopt suspension installation, but they can also be installed into a customized frame body.2.Suspension-type iron separators installed above the main wheel of the belt conveyor, (method 1) sloping type installation is most effective for iron separation but the head pulley must be made of non-magnetic materials.3.When the iron separators are hanged horizontally (Method 2), the belt conveyor’s roller must be changed into a non-magnetic carrier roller. If the roller is changed into a non-magnetic parallel carrier roller, the iron separation ability will be further improved.4.For the installation of the alternately operated iron separators, the gap between the two iron separators’ centres must be twice greater than the overall width of the equipment.5.The electromagnetic and permanent magnetic iron separators developed by our company are capable of continuous working, and they can also be used together with metal detectors.6.The program-controlled disc-type iron separator’s limit switch installation is generally done according to site situation and installation and testing is done on-site.7.The rated DC current and DC voltage shown on the nameplate of the electromagnetic iron separator’s electric control cabinet are the operational current and voltage, which are adjusted before the products leave the factory.8.As needed, the suspension-type iron separators can be configured with corresponding

customized movable or fixed set of iron-collecting bucket (a box to collect discharged iron).Suspension-type magnetic iron separators generally use suspension installation, Fixed lifting point installation is also adopted. Belt-type iron separators generally hang from 4 suspension points, whereas disc-type and manually operated iron separators use single suspension point. There should be a distance between the beam and the iron separator, and the angle between two steel ropes should be less than 55°. The present commonly used is I-beam hanging running gear (bridge crane) hang suspension-type iron separator’s installation. The running device has to be selected from different specifications according to the given suspension-type magnetic iron separators.
