Irish Whiskey History #2In 1858, a blight )מגפה( destroyed France's vineyards and consequently supplies of brandy dried up. Traditional brandy drinkers switched to Irish whiskey and Jameson sales soared.

Up until 1922, Jameson was the most popular whiskey in the British Empire. But after Irish Independence, English tariff barriers priced it out of the market.

Without overseas demand, all 400 Irish whiskey brands fell into decline.The future looked bleak for Irish distillery market.

Irish Whiskey History #3By 1966, only four whiskey distilling companies were left in the Republic of Ireland. In a bold bid to keep the spirit of Irish whiskey alive, the four joined forces and formed Irish Distillers.

In 1975, Irish Distillers opened a new state of the art whiskey distillery in Midleton Co. Cork.

Today, Jameson Irish Whiskey is the fastest growing international whiskey in the world.

Irish Stuff – Have a drink!

It is a sad fact that from a land that once had thousands of distilleries the are leftonly three legal distilleries today. They are:

Bushmills Distillery in Co. Antrim Cooley Distillery in Co. Louth Midleton Distillery in Co. Cork

Of these distilleries Bushmills and Midleton are part of the Irish Distillers Group. Cooley Distillery is the only source of independent Irish whiskey.

There are also two Distillery Museums located on the sites of former distilleries The Jameson's old Bow Street Distillery in Dublin, and Locke's Distillery Museum in Kilbeggan Co. Westmeath.

תהליך היישון דורש מוויסקי שרוצה להיקרא "וויסקי אירי" לשכב בחבית למשך תקופה של לפחות שלוש שנים, כשלמעשה רוב מותגי הוויסקי האירי מיושנים לפחות חמש שנים.

רוב היישון נעשה בחביות שרי, כאשר במקרים רבים נותנים לוויסקי סיומת של כמה חודשים בחביות בורבון פשוטות.

בגלל המורכבות והשינויים הרבים אותם עובר הוויסקי כשהוא שוכב בחבית, נדיר למצוא שנה, וזהו הבדל גדול ומשמעותי לעומת 20מותגי וויסקי אירי המיושנים למעלה מ-

ואף למעלה מכך שכיחים הרבה יותר.30 שנה, 25הוויסקי הסקוטי, שבו מותגים בני

קלילות הוויסקי האירי

לכך שהוא קליל נעוצה במרכיב אחד שלא קיים בוויסקי הסקוטי והוא הסיבה הראשונה (. השעורה הזו כשהיא מעורבבת יחד עם un-malted barleyשעורה לא מונבטת )

המאלט, נותנת לוויסקי הסופי גוף מלא ועגול, אך מורידה מהכובד ומהעוצמתיות של הטעמים בתהליך הייצור. בנוסף לכך היא מאטה את זמן הבישול של הדגנים. זהו מהלך

היסטורי וייחודי שהאירים מבצעים אותו מאות שנים, והוא זה שנותן לוויסקי האירי את המאפיין הבולט ביותר שלו.

ככל שמזקקים פעמים רבות יותר, כך התזקיק חלק יותר. בוודקה מדובר אמנם בדרך כלל בזיקוק רציף פשוט, אך גם בכל הנוגע למשקאות המזוקקים בזיקוק דודי העניין זהה. ולכן,

שלושת הזיקוקים שעובר הוויסקי האירי, שלעתים משלבים זיקוק דודי ורציף, מעניקים לוויסקי חלקלקות נוספת.

In around 1870, the reputation of Scottish whisky was very poor as Scottish distilleries flooded the market with cheaper spirits produced using the Coffey still. The Irish and American distilleries adopted the spelling "whiskey", with the extra "e", to distinguish their higher quality product.

Today, the spelling whisky )plural whiskies( is generally used for whiskies distilled in Scotland, Wales, Canada, Australia, and Japan, while whiskey is used for the spirits distilled in Ireland and the United States.

The difference between Whisky and Whiskey

Jameson #1John Jameson established the Bow St Distillery in 1780. Originally one of the six main Dublin Whiskeys, Jameson it is now distilled in Cork.

With annual sales of over 31 million bottles, Jameson is by far the most famous, most highly regarded and best selling Irish whiskey in the world, as it has been internationally since the early 1800's when Old John Jameson along with his son Young John was producing over a million gallons annually.

Jameson #2Jameson Irish whiskey is produced from a mixture of malted and unmalted or "green" Irish barley, all sourced from within a fifty mile radius around the distillery in Cork.

The barley is dried in a closed kiln fired by clean-burning anthracite coal to preserve its clean pure flavours.

Like most Irish whiskey, Jameson is triple distilled for optimum smoothness.

The philosophy is balance, ensuring that no one flavor element overpowers another.

BushmillsClaiming to be the "Worlds Oldest Whiskey Distillery" based on the undisputed fact that a seven year license to distil dating from April 20th 1608 is attributed to the distillery. Located near the town of Bushmills in Co. Antrim The distillery has had its "ups and downs" including being destroyed by fire in 1885.It is now currently part of the Irish Distillers Group having been bought in 1972.Bushmills produces many fine Whiskeys the most well known being Bushmills Irish Whiskey However they also produce the classic Bushmills Black Bush. In 1881 the company hired a young Corkman called Paddy Flaherty as salesman. Paddy travelled the pubs of Cork, buying drinks for the customers.
