BEAR NECESSITY Food crazes can be transient things, but it seems the appetite for celebrity- endorsed restaurants in Dublin is far from sated. An old school grill, Bear on Dublin’s South William Street is a collaboration between the company behind Jo’Burger, Crackbird and Skinflint, and rugby international Jamie Heaslip. From onglets, bavettes, skirts and London broils to rib eyes and pork chops, the 80-seater has positioned its meat dishes as the star attractions. ITM HIGH FLYERS After wowing more than 10 million people worldwide since its 1994 premiere in Montreal, Cirque du Soleil’s Alegría will make its Dublin debut at the O2 from 25-29 April. Featuring a cast of 55 performers and musicians from 17 countries, the 150-minute production will offer the ultimate in live entertainment, showcasing breathtaking acrobatics and synchronised choreography. Tickets are priced from E49.20 including booking fee. HOT TICKET With six Grammy awards under their belts, 70 million albums sold and their Hyde Park shows recognised as the biggest grossing event in history, The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14. The band members who journeyed to the edge of rock n’ roll excess and returned triumphantly have confirmed that Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will be their special guests when they play Croke Park Dublin on 26 June. Tickets priced from E59.50 are available from Ticketmaster. PORTABLE INNOVATION Sure, millions of us play music and videos on the move. But for many, their interest stops at using their smartphones or androids, which up until now have been poor cousins to living-room setups. So all hail WOWee One. Its new portable projector Vue connects to most devices, laptops and camcorders and enables users to enjoy movies and streaming videos on a screen up to 9-feet wide. The company’s award-winning Slim portable speaker, meanwhile, may be palm-sized but it uses patented gel technology to turn any horizontal surface into a mini sub-woofer with incredible bass and up to 10 hours play time per charge. Further detail online at www.woweeone.com BANKING ON LAUGHS Patrick Combs’ hit one-man show Man 1 Bank O tells the true story of how he deposited a $95,093.35 junk mail cheque into his bank account and what happened after his bank cleared it. Following sell-out shows in the US, Combs brings this feel-good, outrageously funny story to a number of Irish venues over the coming months. Tickets are priced from E25.
