There is no tariff quota applied in non-agricultural section in I.R. Iran's trade

regime

Iran's NTS is currently 18.75 per cent

The figure is 17.12 per cent for industrial goods and 26.43 per cent for agricultural

goods

34 per cent of the total tariff lines have the minimum tariff rate of 4 per cent

About 54.3 per cent of the tariff lines have tariff rates less than or equal to 10 per

cent

There is no tariff quota applied in non-agricultural section in I.R. Iran's trade

regime

No country receives tariff exemption except those, which have preferential trade

Quantitative import restrictions, including prohibitions, quotas and licensing systems

There exist no quantitative restrictions on imports in the trade regime of the I.R. Iran

There exist no non-tariff or technical barriers to imports according "Act on Export-Import

Regulations" unless where the Islamic principles (Shari'a) demands (includes 67 tariff lines)

In 2015 from among 7335 tariff lines, the importation of only 75 items (comprising about 1 per

cent of the total NTS tariff lines) was prohibited.

Export is allowed for all types of goods except the following ones:

Antiques and objects of cultural heritage

Animal, plant and vegetable items considered to be of significance to the preservation of

genetic resources or environment

Exportation of goods subsidized by the Government. These goods include:

- wheat; (except for domestic production)

- subsidized sugar

- subsidized vegetable oils (the exportation of non-subsidized vegetable oils

- detergents

- plant and animal pesticides, and animal and bird vaccine agents is allowed)

- seeds (except for seeds of vegetables and summer crops)

- paper for publications

- printing and writing

- human medicaments (animal medicaments may be exported)

- chemical fertilizers

- livestock feed

The Fifth Plan emphasizes the requirement of adjusting the legal system of the country to regulations of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

• July 2001: Put on the GC agenda

• Raised in GC 23 times (about 4 year)

• May 2005: Iran got observer status

• Late 2009 ratification of memorandum

The General Council established a Working Party to examine the application of the Islamic Republic of Iran on 26 May 2005.

The Islamic Republic of Iran submitted its Memorandum on the Foreign Trade Regime in November 2009.

The chairman of Iran’s working group for accession has not been selected yet.

40 countries’ readiness to join the working group to discuss joining of Iran to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Trade Delegation

Over 140 economic delegations from 48 countries have visited

Iran in the nine months (March-December 2015)

71 delegations from Europe, 41 groups from Asia and 34 from

Africa visited Iran during the period.

Germany has sent the highest number of delegations to Iran,

dispatching 12 economic groups.

Italy dispatched the biggest delegation to Iran that included 360

members.
