    In 1991, new childcare act passed to helpalleviate pressures parents wereexperiencing in finding childcare.

    Effective because it broughtattention to the need for qualitycare.

    Ultimately failed because its strictguidelines made it a more

    expensive endeavor.

    In 1997, women were allowed to take upto an 18 week paidmaternity leave period, with a minimum of70 percent salary replacement.

    Ireland does not provide affordable

    childcare facilities because thegovernment tends to stay out of familyaffairs.

    The Governments lack of intervention inchildcare affected the needs of working

    parents with children.
