IRD MECHANALYSIS TRAINING PROGRAMMES IRD VT1 and VT2 programmes are very popular and have been made available since 70s. The programme has undergone changes to reflect the advancement in vibration data collection, analysis, storage and reporting. They are popularly known as Basic (VT1) and advanced (VT2) training programmes. While VT1 is recommended as the first level for beginners the VT2 is recommended for the experienced ones who are involved in Vibration Condition Monitoring. The content is as follows: Basic Training VT1 Advanced Training VT2 Introduction to vibration technology What is vibration and how can it be used
to evaluate machinery condition? Characteristics of vibration Overview of strength and weaknesses of
typical vibration instruments Instruments for vibration detection and analysis
Vibration Transducers and how to select them properly
Vibration standards Principle of digital data acquisition and FFT processing for spectral analysis
Vibration analysis of common machinery problems
Natural frequency testing and instrumentation. Role of spike energy for bearing detection.
Dynamic balancing Enhanced Vibration diagnostic using phase analysis and cascade diagram
Implementing a vibration monitoring programme
How to specify overall, spectral band and narrowband vibration alarms
Introduction to Lissajous Orbit acquisition and interpretation.
Vibration isolation mechanism and vibration damping
In situ Dynamic Balancing This is a one day programme for learning on site balancing. Contents are:
1. Introduction to Vibration 2. Identification of unbalance as a problem 3. On site balancing technique – 1 plane only 4. Hands on
ISO TRAINING COURSES Beginning 2014 IRD Mechanalysis brings ISO 18436:2003 Vibration condition monitoring training with certification. This training has been created by Institute for Excellence in Engineering and Management (IEEM) Mumbai and conforms to ISO 18436-‐2. The training will be imparted by IRD Mechanalysis. An education board has been created as per IS/ISO/IEC 17024: 2003 consisting of senior practitioners, academicians, experts from condition monitoring service companies. The board will overseas certification and examination process. Currently only vibration condition monitoring category 1 and category 2 are being offered. In 2015 we shall introduce category 3, 4 and 5. For content and other details IRD or IEEM can be contacted.
MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT TRAINING A holistic condition monitoring programme needs knowledge in other related topics. In order to make our training offerings complete and comprehensive we are offering additional titles. Brief write-‐up and content for each is mentioned. INTEGRATION OF CONDITION MONITORING FOR EARLY WARNING AND ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
The programme discusses the three widely used condition monitoring technologies: Vibration, Thermography and Wear Debris Analysis. Plant problems tend to appear first as temperature rise or increase in lube oil particle concentration. Any such warning gets corroborated through the other CM technique. Thus practice of all three techniques provides early warning and root cause. The programme discusses few cases also. RELIABILITY CENTERED MAINTENANCE (RCM) AND ASSET OPTIMIZATION RCM or Reliability Centered Maintenance was developed during 70s in the US for determining the optimum maintenance for flying objects. The method was very powerful in reducing the risk of failures and enhancing reliability. Since then it has been continuously developed and used in Defense, Nuclear and Fossil fuel based power generation, Oil and gas industries. The method is so versatile and useful that it has now permeated all kinds of industries that operate in a competitive environment. The programme will explain step by step method to upgrade existing practices to RCM based practices. It thus optimizes asset utilization. The content shall be as follows:
• Introduction and RAM • Why Machine fails – bath tub
curve • Functions and functional failures • Failure mode and effect analysis
– FMEA • RCM decision diagram • Condition monitoring
• Implementation and change management
EFFECTIVE PM and PdM Preventive or time based maintenance is age old. A step beyond is use of instruments and sensors for health assessment and predicting needs of maintenance. In recent times PdM term has been used extensively by all industries. The programme makes the concept clear and helps participants in making their maintenance programme effective.
• Introduction and Maintenance strategy • Why machine fails – Bath tub curve • Preventive Maintenance • Criticality analysis • Predictive maintenance • FMEA and PM design • Making programme effective
MAINTENANCE COST CONTROL Maintenance cost varies from 1 to 5% of top line. Any improvement and corresponding savings gets added to the bottom line. The training brings out the elements of maintenance cost and discusses methodology to optimize the same. The contents shall be as follows:
• Elements of maintenance cost • Measurement • Maintenance strategy and cost • Buying strategy and cost • Concept of terotechnology
FAILURE MODE, EFFECT AND CRITICALITY ANALYSIS (FMECA) WORKSHOP This is a very simple but very powerful technique for process improvement, design improvement and maintenance programme design. In the two days’ workshop we shall discuss Equipment FMEA.
FMEA is an integral part of RCM and maintenance programme design. The workshop will help maintenance executives in making their programme effective and on reliability lines. The content shall be as follows:
• PM and PdM refresher • Failures and functional failures • FMEA process – Process FMEA and Equipment
FMEA • Task recommendations • RPN calculation and risk mitigation • Role of predictive maintenance • Cases
CONDITION MONITORING OF ELECTRICAL MACHINES Electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, generators form a large chunk of equipment in all industry. Condition monitoring of these is equally important. The programme will discuss following:
• Electrical machines extent -‐ drives, transformers and reactors, control panels, others
• Introduction to all available technique • Vibration monitoring • Temperature Monitoring and Thermography • Dissolved Gas Analysis • Furan Test • Oil monitoring • Electrical parameter monitoring – Current, Voltage,
Power factor, Impedance, Tan delta • Setting up a condition monitoring programme on
electrical equipment
SENIOR MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
ENGINEERING ASSET MANAGEMENT AND CORPORATE GOALS Engineering Asset Management function impacts Business Goals especially the financial ones. In the melee of daily tasks this important function takes a back seat and Engineering Asset Management suffers. In this work shop each participant will analyse the relationship between
"Corporate Goals", "Asset Management challenges" and "Regular engineering functions" that keep happening at the shop level. This will bring out the relationship between these elements and will act both ways -‐ helping the senior management to realise the importance of Engineering Asset Management and also helping working management in morale boosting. The working management sees the relationship between small actions at shop and its far reaching impact at Business Goals. RELIABILITY CENTERED MAINTENANCE RCM or Reliability Centered Maintenance was developed during 70s in the US for determining the optimum maintenance for flying objects. The programme will make senior management aware about RCM enabling them to make use of this practice. EDUCATION PROGRAMME CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME IN CONDITION MONITORING AND RELIABILITY* This is weekend programme for working professionals leading to award of Certificate from a University in Maharashtra. The programme will be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays for six weeks. The content shall be as follows:
• Maintenance strategy • Preventive and predictive maintenance • Vibration condition monitoring • Thermography • Oil monitoring and wear debris analysis • Condition monitoring for enhanced reliability
