    A. E82/E72 Replacing the Main Controller PCBCaution:Do not install a main controller PCB equipped with a counter memory PCB. (Do not replace the countermemory PCB and the main controller PCB simultaneously) Ifyou can check the reading of the soft counters and the readings in service mode,1) Press the Counter Check key on the control panel, and take notes of the readings of the soft counters.

In addition, obtain the readings in service mode, and record them on the service label. (Remove theservice sheet case behind the right cover. Write the readings corresponding to the items indicated onthe label).

Ifyou cannot check the readings of the soft counters and the readings in service mode,2) Turn off the main power switch.3) Remove the four screws, and detach the rear upper cover.4) Remove the main controller PCB as shown in the Service Manual. Then, remove the counter memory

PCB from the faulty main controller PCB.5) Mount the counter memory PCB you remove in step 4) to a new main controller PCB.Caution:Be sure to mount the counter memory PCB you removed in step 4). (Do not use a counter memory PCBused anywhere else previously.)6) Assemble the parts.7) Turn on the main power switch.8) Check to make sure that the readings of the soft counters have been continued.Caution:If you selected the soft counter on the control panel for display, be sure to select them newly usingservice mode (OPTION>USER>COUNTER2 to 6).9) Enter the value you recorded in step 1) using service mode (COPIER>ADJUST and OPTION). (Besure to press the OK key after you have entered a value.)Ifyou could not make a check in service mode in step 1), enter the values already recorded on theservice label.

    10) Tum off and then on the main power switch.11) End.

    B. E82/E72 Actions to Take in Response to an Error Associatedwith the Soft Counter1. E245/E247Perform the following:Caution:Performing the following will return the readings of the user soft counters to '0'. Inform the user of thisfact and the nature of the error.1) Tum off the main power switch.2) By referring to "Replacing the main controller PCB," replace the counter memory PCB on the main

controller PCB with a new counter memory PCB (service parts).3) Assemble the parts.4) Tum on the main power switch.

If 'E247', 'E355' will be indicated. Make the following selections in service mode, and press the OKkey: FUNCTION>CLEAR>E355-CLR. Thereafter, turn off and then on the main power switch.

    5) Check to make sure that the readings of soft counters have returned to '0' on the control panel, andreport to the user to end the work

    2. E246

\Perform the following:1) Tum off the main power switch.2) By referring to "Replacing the main controller PCB," replace the counter memory PCB on the main

    controJIer PCB with a new counter memory PCB.3) Assemble the parts.4) Tum on the main power switch.5) On the control panel, check to make sure that the readings of the soft counters have been continued;

    then, end the work.

    3.E354Perform the following:Caution:

Ifyou have replaced the main controller PCB and the counter memory PCB at the same time with anexisting pair (prohibited), or if you replaced the serial number (SN) PCB while it is in goodcondition (without the indication of 'E350), a mismatch will be identified and indicated in the controlpanel (i.e., a mismatch of the serial numbers of the serial number PCB and the main controllerPCB/counter memory PCB).

    a. Install a new counter memory PCB to the existing main controller PCBh. Install the existing counter memory PCB to a new (or used) main controller PCB

Ifyou cannot take either of the above actions, perform the steps that follow. (In this case, be sure toinform the user that these steps will change the readings of the soft counters.)In the case of the latter [i.e., when replacing the serial number (SN) PCB), retain the readings of thesoftware counters as follows:If the serial number (SN) PCB is replaced with a new one despite the absence of 'E350', the machinewill put itself out of operation.

    1) Turn off the machine's main power switch, and replace the counter memory PCB with a new one.2) When 'E355' is indicated, make the following selections in service mode, and press the OK key:

FUNCTION>CLEAR>E355-CLR.3) Wait for about 10 sec until E355-CLR ends, and turn off and then on the machine's main power

switch.4) See that the user soft counter reading returns to '0'.

    4. E355Perform the following:Caution:Ifyou have replaced the main controller PCB and the counter memory PCB with a new pair (prohibited)'E355' will be indicated [i.e., a mismatch of serial numbers between the serial number PCB, maincontroller PCB, and counter memory PCB).

If this is the case, you can avoid E355 by mounting the existing counter memory PCB to a new (or used)main controller PCB without affecting the readings of the soft counters.Ifyou cannotdo so, perform the steps that follow. (In this case, be sure to inform the user that, these stepswill cause the readings of the soft counters to return to'O'.)Ifthe serial number (SN) PCB is replaced with a new one despite the absence of 'E350', the machinewill put itself out of operation.

    1) Select FUNCTUION>CLEAR>E355-CLR, and press the OK key.2) Turn off and then on the main power switch, check that the readings of the soft counters have change

to '0' on the control panel.

    3) Using COPIER>ADJUST and OPTION in service mode enter the values you recorded on the servicelabel. (Be sure to press the OK key after entering avalue.)If you could not make a check in service mode in step 1), enter the values already recorded on theservice label.

Caution:If you selected optional soft counters on the control panel for display, be sure to select them newly usingservice mode (OPTION>USER>COUNTER 2 to 6),4) Inform the user that the readings of the soft counters have changed to '0' to end the work.

    5. E350Perform the following:Caution:If the serial number (SN) PCB is replaced with a new one despite the absence of 'E350', the machinewill put itself out of operation.

    1) Turn off the machine's main power switch, and replace the serial number (SN) PCB with a new one.2) Assemble the parts.3) Tum on the main power switch.4) Once again, turn off and then on the main power switch.5) Check to make sure that the readings of the soft counters have been continued.

The chart "Backing Up the E82/E72 Soft Counter" has been prepared so that thoseconcerned in Sales Companies may have a good understanding of the E82fE72 soft countersand may better be equipped to manage soft counters ingeneral. Please bear in mind that disclosure of information as it is to a dealer can create unwarrantedworries over the possible disadvantages of soft counters, adversely affecting sales activities. In the light of this, it is highly important to make arrangements so that the information willbe used strictly within each Sales Company. .The chart complies cases that can occur as a result of replacement work in the filed, i.e.,with reference to combinations of three elements constituting the E82/E72's soft counters(main controller PCB, serial number (SN) PCB, and counter memory PCB, referred to as"counter memory PCB" in the table).A combination in blue represents that "the counter readings have been transferred properlyas described in the document to which this is an attachment. In No.3, for instance, inresponse to E246 (write error for EEPROM), a new EEPROM has been mounted so that thecounter reading is maintained properly.Ifa combination designated as "prohibited" occurs in the field, the counter readingsinherent to the machine will be lost, causing a great deal of confusion in terms of businessand service. To avoid the foregoing occurrences, it is of utmost importance that the counter memoryPCBs (EEPROM) be placed under strict control in the field.
