IQAC REPORT 2014-15 - 2018-19 2014-15 IQAC members Dr. Deepa Sharma, Dr. Ceena Paul and Ms. Geeta Patil underwent a two day Refresher Course of IMC-RBNQA which certified them as quality examiners for the academic year 2014-15. They formed examiners of different teams assessing performance levels of industrial organizations and educational institutes in various parts of the Asian continent. The college underwent the third cycle of NAAC re-accreditation process from 6 th to 8 th March 2013 and consequently the college received “A” grade with a CGPA of 3.11. Seminar on Education-Industry Interface: New Avenues in Corporate Social Responsibilities (18 th March 2015) 3-day workshop on Usage of Statistical tools in Social Science for students of Humanities faculty (24 students benefitted) The activities of the PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE SYSTEM in the academic year 2014-15 - EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE & LEADERSHIP CELL: The Academic Council, Examination, Library, Alumni, Career Guidance & Placement, Book Bank and Enrichment committees function under the Educational Excellence & Leadership Cell. Activities related to scrutinizing the teaching-learning and evaluation processes, arranging career guidance programmes and facilitating books and reading materials to students were executed systematically. The heads of academic departments monitored the functioning of their individual departments and arranged for implementation of innovative methods, research activities, seminars, workshops and guest lectures. An Intra-departmental academic audit for the year 2014-15 will be held in the month of June and July 2015. Departments were asked to work according to guidelines given. HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CELL: Maintaining continuous interaction with students and faculty to look into problematic issues and develop intervention strategies is the primary task of this cell. 2014-15 - 2018-19

2014-15

IQAC members Dr. Deepa Sharma, Dr. Ceena Paul and Ms. Geeta Patil underwent a two

day Refresher Course of IMC-RBNQA which certified them as quality examiners for the

level of students. Opportunities are created for students to compete at college and

intercollege levels.

COMMUNITY WELFARE CELL: Students are given training by the NSS and NCC

programme officers to work in community for the betterment of society.

Departmental Community Development activities also aim to sensitize students to

the needs of the society. The Aarogyam centre overseers the health of students and

staff members through regular health related programmes.

RESEARCH CELL: The Research Cell arranged for a three day workshop on 'Usage of

Statistical Tools in Social science' for students of Humanities Faculty and 24

students benefitted from the workshop.

TECHNOLOGY CELL: The recording of documents related to college activities were

maintained by the cell.

FEEDBACK & EVALUATION CELL: Online feedback as well as manual feedback was

taken from students regarding teaching process and library facilities.

2015-16

A seminar on Career Guidance was organised by IQAC Cell for the all students of B.A.

and B.Com third year of the college on 13th August 2015. Ms.Varsha Bora of Techno

Serve Company of Lower Parel , Mumbai and Rushikesh Thakur of NIIT of Mumbai gave

detail information on job openings in various corporate sectors. A large number of

students benefitted from this workshop.

A Seminar on “Innovations in Education” was organised on 21st August 2015.

Dr.B.S.Madhukar, Director University of Mumbai University Quality Assurance Cell and

Deputy advisor NAAC was the resource person. In his speech Dr.B.S.Madhukar spoke

about Quality and challenges of innovation in higher education .He stated that there is a

need to bring about a change in the attitude towards quality in education .He suggested

changes in existing modes of teaching. 45 teachers from Arts, Commerce, BMM, BCA,

Post graduate Department of Shri M. D.Shah Mahila College and 12 teachers from

different colleges of SNDT and Mumbai University attended the Seminar. Ms Geeta Patil

showed the PPT of the activities of the previous IQAC Cell of the College and spoke on

Bench Marking. Dr.Mohanbhai Patel, the president of Janseva Samiti gave the

presidential address. He spoke about importance of three pillars of ecucation – Quality,

Competitiveness and Qualitative Education. Dr.Deepa Sharma spoke about the necessity

of ushering in creative and out of the box thinking in various academic and

administrative work processes of the college. She stated that institution aimed to avoid

people centric approach and attempted to involve stake holders, primarily students in

all activities initiated by the college.

Ms.Geeta Patil and Ms. Shubha Acharya, the members of UGC Cell and IQAC Cell

respectively were invited at Bhavan’s College, Mumbai to give a talk on “Functioning of

IQAC of our Institution” to the IQAC team of their college on 12th September 2015.

IQAC Training /Workshop was conducted on “Competency Based Education: The Need

of the Day” on 19th September 2015.To sensitize teachers for continual improvement

through latest approaches ,sharing of resources and networking ,Mr.Debjyoti ,senior

Economist and Assistant Vice-President at The Multi Commodities Exchange of India,

spoke on Competency Based Education: The Need of the Day”. He provided

comprehensive and detail statistical information on the said topic. He defined the

concept of competency based education (CBE).This concept referred to mastery of work

related skills .He also added that it is necessary to develop modules which can be used

by students according to their convenience. Further signifying CBE, Mr, Dey discussed

importance of Computer literacy, vocational and social life skills. He emphasized on

community based education. To support his claim he cited two case studies, one from

Pratham Institute, an NGO and another from Arth Vidya training institute. Another

resource person, Mr. Qamar Javed, Assistant General Manager, Corporate

Communication Department, spoke on “Requirement of Academics to Adopt

Competency based Education”. He emphasized on the significance of each subject and

its relative role in various fields in the present times. Dr.Deepa Sharma gave Key note

address and it was followed by a question answer session.

Ms.Jayshree Vora and Mr. Hitesh Pandya attended a one day Seminar on “International

Teaching and learning Strategies: Acquisition to production of Knowledge” on 28th

September 2015, at Maniben Nanavati College of Arts and Commerce which is affiliated

to SNDT University.

Workshop on “Quality Improvement in Education” was conducted on 11th January 2016

in the College auditorium. The Chief Guest Mr.M.Niyama, Quality project officer of

Japan’s Toyota Company, Mumbai Branch spoke on “Quality Improvement in Education

through experiences of Quality Journey of Toyota”. Mr.Basudev Bannerjee,President

NCQM spoke on “Innovative Techniques and tools for Quality Improvement in

Education”.

NAAC, Dombivali College of Mumbai University .The paper also got published in IQAC Journal of

the Seminar with ISSN .

8) Under the aegis of IQAC Cell, the Intra –Departmental auditing of each department was held

in the months of June –July 2016.The review of each department was given to them for

departmental progress and the documentation of the following was done by IQAC Cell.
