Outline• Introduction– IPv4 exhaustion– Transition mechanisms

• Related Work– 6to4 Tunnel– 6RD Tunnel

• Implementation– Architecture– Customer Edge– Border Relay

• Conclusion & Future Work

2

Introduction• There is no Unallocated IPv4 address at IANA

since February 3rd 2011. • In other words. There will be lots of device

needs to use pure IPv6 to connect to the Internet in the future.

3

Introduction(cont.)

• The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 take times. During this period, the different networks, IPv4s and IPv6s, need to communicate with each other.

Introduction(cont.)

• The transition mechanisms include three major categories:– Dual-stack– Translation– Tunneling– 6to4 tunnel, 6RD tunnel, etc.

Related Work

• 6to4 Tunnel Feature• 6to4 Prefix :

2002 : Public IPv4 address ::\48

ASUS RT-N16(CE)

Cisco 2811(BR)

6RD host

Implementation(cont.)

• CE– Upgrade the RT-N16

firmware from DD-WRT– Configure the router to

advertise the ISP prefix

• We first build the tunnel with Comcast’s BR

11

Implementation(cont.)

• Cisco 2811– Upgrade the IOS to version 15.1(3)T1 with 6RD

support

– Configure the tunnel informations

12

Conclusion & Future Work

• Conclusion– Unfortunately we encountered some unknown

problems so that there is no 6RD traffic between our CE and BR.

– As soon as we overcome the problem, the 6RD implementation in TANet will be completed.

• Future Work– Security Issue– Traffic Measuring and Analyzing
