The unparalleled contribution made by ‘people’ in shaping the destiny of a nation cannot be over emphasized. In an organizational context, human resources have been recognized as the most valued ‘capital’ that enables organizations to achieve economic development and productivity growth whilst facilitating change, innovation and business sustenance. Human Capital which comprises knowledge, skills, attitudes, creativity and social and personality attributes must be thus harnessed proactively and productively; an art and a science that must be mastered by all ‘People Managers’.

Our theme ‘Creating a new DNA for Human Capital Management’ stems from one singular thought; to build a generation of passionate, innovative and visionary People Managers who can transform the discipline of human capital management into a value creating business partner for any public or private entity. The knowledge, skills, attitudes and values we impart to our valued students will thus enable them to discover ‘the DNA for human capital management’, hidden within them, so they are able to transform the HR discipline to become the ‘nucleus’ of the world of work.

CREATING A NEW DNA FOR HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT6

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT, IPMSL“People Management” is a term in ethics with several meanings. It is often used synonymously with such concepts as responsibility, answerability, enforcement, blameworthiness, motivation and other terms associated with the expectation of “HR-giving”.

With the above note, I am delighted to pen this message to the IPM Prospectus – 2014.

Sri Lanka has a rather impressive history of achievements in

rates rank high among the developing nations. However, we still lag behind in achieving our goals required through innovative and creative people participation. The lack of quality education to develop creative people skills of students is perhaps a big concern for the country. Thankfully, Human Resource Development through creative business thinking is now a primary requisite in improving the economy as well as the quality of life.

I am glad to convey that the Institute is determined and has indeed taken necessary steps to carry forward the development process of professional HR education. We aim to equip the younger generation with HR skills and competencies needed to face the challenges of the modern

means, by imbibing and putting into practice the numerous professional HR programmes associated with IPM.

I also wish to assure you that the IPM will play a leading role in facilitating professional HR education and thereby the development of the knowledge economy of the entire nation to strengthen the economy and to support the development of our country.

While personally appreciating you for choosing IPM as the professional educational partner to enhance the quality of your life, I sincerely wish you all the very best for every success in your future endeavours.

Stocked with a rich collection of HR and business management resource material, the library contains a special collection of management books, Business Journals, sample project reports, business directories and a comprehensive collection of academic and business-centric information vital for both students and the membership. IPM’s main library which is located at HR House in Narahenpita is regarded as Sri Lanka’s largest HR library while the two mini-libraries established at the Kandy Regional Centre and Kurunegala Study Centre respectively are fast gaining popularity among the public in the area.

teaching and work, the resource persons are able to provide the students the necessary support and guidance they need to succeed in their studies as well as in work.

THE IDEAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Creating a conducive learning environment has been one of the key features in IPM’s study programmes where ‘small classes’ that are well equipped with teaching aids is the ‘model’ adopted by the Institute. This enhances the degree of ‘learning acquisition’ and ‘interaction’ between the student and lecturer and provides an opportunity for the students to clarify issues, express their view points and enter into healthy discussions thereby reinforcing their learning.
