CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
Day 1:
• Describe 3 key elements of the Invisible Architecture™ of a healthcare organization and why this is more
important than the visible architecture of bricks and mortar.
• Define the 3 essential qualities of a Culture of Ownership and at least 2 specific strategies for promoting
such a culture.
• Distinguish between accountability and ownership, define the three levels of accountability, and be able to
identify personal core values in the heart of nurse leadership.
• Learn how to recognize resistance and the other internally imposed barriers to effective goal achievement
that cause people to be “your own worst enemy.”
• Appreciate the power of changing self-talk, self-image, and self-identity for being happier and more
successful.
• Show how the 10-A Formula can transform mere dreams and goals into Memories of the Future.
Day 2:
• Updated on current issues affecting Indiana Health Care
• Learn about the new substance abuse program for Indiana’s Licensed Professionals
• Learn the steps to innovation and compare the process used in three nurse-led innovations in healthcare
design.
• Demonstrate strategies for an embedded NP model in a Skilled Nursing Facility network to achieve
desired outcomes.
Day 3:
• Identify core commonalities among Magnet and Pathway to Excellence programs that can be leveraged to
inform leadership strategies.
• To learn about current student & patient progress in USI’s ANE PCMHI Project
• Rising above adversity and discovering your full potential
• Recognizing key life lessons in failure
• Developing the kind of self-discipline that paves the way to success

Joe Tye
CEO Values Coach Inc.
Joe Tye is CEO and Head Coach of Values Coach Inc., which works with
healthcare organizations to design and build a culture of ownership on a
foundation of values. He is the author or coauthor of 15 books and dozens
of journal articles on personal achievement and organizational culture and
a frequent speaker for healthcare association conferences and hospital
leadership programs. Prior to founding Values Coach, Inc. in 1994 he was
chief operating officer for a large community teaching hospital.

Indiana Hospital Association
Brian Tabor serves as president of the
Indiana Hospital Association, which
represents the interests of approximately
170 Indiana hospitals. The association is
the chief advocate for hospitals and their
patients, representing their interests with
the State of Indiana, the federal
government, the business community,
regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies,
and other stakeholders.
Prior to joining IHA in 2008 as vice president, Mr. Tabor worked in
various policy roles for the Indiana General Assembly and in government
relations for the Indiana Association of REALTORS®. He currently serves
on several governing boards, including Covering Kids & Families of Indiana,
the
Indiana Health Information Exchange, the Sycamore School, the Indiana
Fiscal Policy Institute, and the Governmental Affairs Society of Indiana. Mr.
Tabor graduated from Purdue University with a B.A. in political science and
an M.S. in agricultural economics.

Dr. Kristina Box, MD, FACOG
State Health Commissioner
Dr. Kristina Box was named Indiana State
Health
Commissioner by Governor Eric J. Holcomb on September 18, 2017. She brings to the role a passion for improving the health of Hoosiers, beginning before birth.
Dr. Box has been a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist in Indianapolis for 30 years, starting her career at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis in 1987 as a private practitioner with Clearvista Women's Care. Since 2015, she has served as the
Physician Lead for Community Health Network's Women's Service Line.
In this role, she built the first multi-disciplinary women’s center in the Community Health Network, developed critical partnerships with area children’s hospitals to improve care and decrease health care costs, and led efforts to ensure that low-income women receive the important free health screenings they need. She has served on the Indiana Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative (IPQIC), an advisory council to the Indiana State Department of Health that is comprised of more than 300 statewide community professionals working to reduce infant mortality. Her work with IPQIC includes serving on a state task force to address neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), which established standards for the diagnosis of NAS and developed a hospital study to determine the prevalence of drug exposed newborns.
Dr. Box earned her undergraduate degree at Indiana University in Bloomington and her medical doctorate at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Indiana State Medical Association and the Marion County Medical Association, and serves on many hospital committees.
Dr. Box has been involved in ongoing surgical medical missions to Haiti and Bolivia for more than a decade. She and her husband of 35 years, David, a retired ophthalmologist, live in Indianapolis. They have four adult children.

Indiana Professionals Recovery Program
IPRP is the Indiana Professionals Recovery Program (IPRP) - a state-wide monitoring program for health care
professionals who suffer from substance use disorder. Our goal is twofold: first, we aspire to help protect the
health, safety and welfare of patients that could be at risk from an impaired provider and second, to provide
support, resources, advocacy, and accountability for health care professionals suffering from substance use
disorder as they begin and continue their journey of sustained sobriety. The IPRP team is dedicated to helping the
impaired provider remain accountable and dependable both during and after their time in the program, so they can
overcome their addiction and ultimately return to the career they love.
Dr. Terry Harman IPRP Program Director
Dr. Harman is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor
and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Indiana. He was honorably
discharged from the U.S. Army in 1981 having served with the 101st Airborne and 2nd
Armor Divisions as a Pharmacy Specialist and then later as an Infantryman. After the
military he returned to school to complete multiple undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology, Latino Studies, and Theology culminating in a Doctor of Ministry degree
in Pastoral Counseling from The Chicago Theological Seminary and a PhD in Pastoral
Counseling from the Anglican Theological Seminary. His doctoral training concentrated
on Family Systems Theory, Jungian Psychology and Addiction Counseling.
Since 1981 he’s served adolescents and adults in a variety of private and not-for-profit settings including directing the
employee assistance programs for the steel industry, state operated mental health facilities, maximum security prisons,
community corrections, inpatient psychiatric, residential substance abuse units, intensive outpatient and outpatient substance
abuse programs. Since 1990 he has served as an adjunct professor in both undergraduate and graduate programs for
addiction studies, Psychology and Clinical Counseling with Calumet College of Saint Joseph, Governors State University
and Indiana University Northwest. In 2011 he was instrumental in developing and implementing Indiana University
Northwest’s Master of Science degree in Clinical Counseling with a specialization in substance abuse counseling.
Brittany Sholtis
Brittany a graduate of Indiana University Northwest where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in psychology, as well as her Master of Science degree in Clinical
Counseling. She has been working in the field of addiction and mental health for three and
a half years. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient setting, working with clients
18 and over; some of whom were on federal or county probation, referred by their
employee assistance program, and those who sought treatment on their own. Currently
Brittany is sitting for licensure for the LCACA in 2018. Brittany also has experience
working for a government office offering financial support to those in need through the
Center Township Trustee in LaPorte County where she served as a case manager and
office clerk. Brittany has a passion for working with those who are struggling with
addiction and helping them get back on track and experience life clean and sober.

As a registered nurse and registered
architect, Joyce Durham brings a valuable
perspective to the SmithGroup health
planning team and clients. She has 30 years
of clinical, healthcare consulting and
architectural experience. In her role as
Senior Clinical Advisor, Joyce is
committed to using the physical
environment to positively impact the
delivery of care particularly in the areas of
safety, efficiency, and patient and staff
satisfaction.
Joyce’s definition of a successful project is one that challenges the status
quo, integrates innovative operational systems, maximizes the use of space,
and in turn, generates the most effective and forward-looking healthcare
design solution. Joyce is a founding member of the Nursing Institute for
Healthcare Design (NIHD) and currently serves as president of the
organization.

Kathy Clodfelter, MSN, MBA, NE-BC
Kathy has been a part of the Deaconess Health System for 36 years working in a variety of roles in both acute and post-
acute settings. She holds a MSN from WGU and a MBA from Colorado State University. She is currently working
collaboratively with the acute and post-acute areas of the health system addressing continuum of care, chronic disease
management, ACO programs, and the integration of care in the community setting.
Shelly Evans, BS
Shelly joined Deaconess Health System in 2001 and has over 23 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. She
graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in Management and Marketing. She currently manages the
Deaconess Post-Acute Services department and works closely with local and regional post-acute facilities; including
SNF’s, IRF, LTACH, Home Health / Hospice & Palliative Care. She also works closely with acute service line leaders,
case management and ACO leaders.
Ekta Rathee, DNP, FNP- C
Ekta is a full time instructor in advanced nursing education at University of Southern Indiana, where she has the opportunity to coach interdisciplinary graduate level students. She also practices as an FNP
one day a week. She absolutely loves what she does. Originally from India, she came to the US in 2007 and has lived in four states including Florida and North Dakota.
Blessed with two daughters. Honesty, Integrity, hard-work, and great relationships are her core values. Strives to be a
good practitioner and educator everyday. Ekta has a newly found passion for mental health. Considering her passion
and the huge need of mental health practitioners in the Midwest and across the nation, she has decided to pursue the
Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program as well, which she hopes to compete in Summer, 2020.

Deanna L. Reising, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, FNAP, ANEF
Deanna is a Professor of Nursing at Indiana University; Clinical Nurse Specialist and Magnet
Program Co-Director at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital, Bloomington, IN;
and System Magnet Coordinator for Indiana University Health. She has taught in bachelors,
masters, and doctoral programs. Dr. Reising is an expert in interprofessional education and
practice, and her career focus has been in developing experiential learning environments for
nursing and health professions students. She developed the “navigator” program which teams
undergraduate nursing and second year medical students. Since the navigator program
inception, 30-day readmissions of patients at high risk for readmission to the hospital have
been significantly reduced. Additionally, the navigator program laid the foundation for a
financial model demonstrating a value-added return-on-investment, benefiting students,
patients, and the practice environment. In 2017, the navigator project won the National
Academy of Practice Creativity and Practice and Education Award.
Brenda Davis, MSN, RN
Brenda Davis became the Chief Nurse Officer and Vice President Patient Services for IU Health
Bedford Hospital in 2000. Her primary role consists of providing strategic and operational
leadership for nursing, clinical inpatient and outpatient services. Her nursing career started at IU
Health Bedford Hospital (Bedford Medical Center) in 1974 as an ER nurse and she has served in
progressive clinical and leadership positions of increasing scope and responsibility throughout
her career. In 2014 she led the IU Health Bedford Nursing team to Pathway to Excellence
designation and re-designation in 2017. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from
University of Southern Indiana and a Master Degree from Oakland City University. During her
career she has received the IU Bedford President Values Leadership Award, and Boss of the Year
Award from American Business Women of America.

Andrea Kessler is Vice President of Clinical Strategy and Integration for Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, Indiana responsible for creating systemness for nursing areas across the IU Health 17 facility business units. Prior to joining IU Health in 2015, she served as the Director of Patient Care Operations and Strategic Initiatives at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. A graduate of Allegheny College, Kessler received her MBA in Health Science Management from the University of Rochester Simon Business School.
