The initiative of a radical volumetric approach can be found in the demarche to the notion of living. In order to obtain a continuity on the

main boulevard, without altering the existing urban tissue we propose an intervention that aims to balance the composition both volumetric

and functional. Following the existing types of housing in the area, as well as the problems posed by site, we aim to improve the quality of life

in the area. Difficulties when it comes to Bucharest, refers to traffic jams, pollution and desolating aspect of communist construction. The

attempt to change the hostile atmosphere without interfering with the existing buildings, is translated by the loan of some industrial architecture

influences and their application in the housing typologies known, in order to obtain a diversity of housing that includes both apartments and row houses with separate entrance. The proposed solution is essential for

communicating with the public space in the immediate vicinity and how our proposal could set a precedent for the development of public spaces.

Starting from the typical “traditional ilot” shape along with the existing bar-dwelling and individual houses, we developed a hybrid concept containing a large variety of dwellings, and taking into consideration the huge need of public space. The lack of parks is obivious due the industrial influences. This wWay, we tried to combine the characteristics of each element: we took the interior court from the traditional living unit, we made an acces by elevating a large part of the building, and we tried to integrate the structure between the trees so that it will leave behind the feeling that the building llives in symbi-osis with the proposed environement. The cyan color indicates the public facilities and space given tWo the neighborhood where as the yellow color indicates the semi-public space and the integrated individual houses. Colored in magenta are the typical dwellings; each side of the proposed building has it’s own influence and they are related to the side by height and functionality. The accesses appear as local tubes with staiirs and elevators making the distribution to each segment and also to the underground parking.

The educational program involves a higher attention to the psycholog-ical factors. The way children see the institution, the way they interact

with the environment it is very important. The kindergarten is actually the first place where as child you make contact with the world, with other

people and most of all without being surveilled by your parents. This way, we find it very important to take it step by step, and start with primary

volumes which makes the composition quite simple.

The construction is made of individual structural pavilions linked by a cori-dor with continuos view to the playground. All the pavilions, meet in the entrance hall, used as well during the lunch time for eating. Basically this is the point zero, where all the functions meet and split each other to

diferent directions. The option for having primary volumes, was taken into consideration due the fact that the site is situated in a protected area

of Bucharest, with lots of old buildings.

25

Page 26: Ioan Razvan Molie - Selected Works 2014

The curent context is related to a specific side of Bucharest untouched by the communist interventions. The protected area reveals a typical page of modern architecture, during the Kingdom of Romania ( interbelic period ) where the identity of each house is well defined. In order to preserve the aspect and the atmosphere of the zone, the intervention is quite minimal, with basic geometrical forms, that could be easily asimilated by children, and match a certain place where they spend most of their daily time.

The green arrow spots the level of perceptions of the children by passing the city in their way to kindergarten, while crossing the protected area. This is also translated by the way they see the volumes and how familiar are these.

There were two demands for this project that need to be harmoniously combined: the first one was a scenography involving a new scene for the

concert The Wall of Pink Floyd; the second one was more technically, reefering to how we could obtain new visual effects with the new

techique.

During the concert of Roger Waters in Berlin in 1990, the scenography involved constructiong a big wall and destroying it afterwards. The wall was technically limited by costs and by dimensions. The answer of the

today’s new techology is the projections on the artificial fog. This way we can deveolop a new space using fog projections and new effects.

Roger Waters apears in the frong of the public, and performs. Afterwards, he starts a dialog with the public involving social aspects.

He’s message, he’s song, breaks the wall that stands between us and the evolution everytime he crosses near him. In the end, the wall apears to

be just an illusion.

Tales always come from the dimness of another time and place that somehow still feel present. That’s why the edge between story and re-

ality is full of fringes and gradients, but the distance inbetween is always worth a journey. The link between space and atmosphere is enhanced by light and, even more important, by darkness. The towers act like a direct connection between reality and legend, featuring a vertical trip from the ground floor to the different levels of the exhibition. The visitors use the platforms in each exhibition room to pass through the immaterial storeys

of the museum in a gradual immersion into the story. Moreover, all the towers feature this type of vertical development from the public level.

In terms of spatial organization, the ensemble acts like a reinterpretation of a castle by creating an enclosure defined by the towers that repre-sent the spaces designed for the main functions of the center and the encircling wall that is materialized by the route. Using the square shaped plans for the towers is implies the centrality and the vertical axis of the

space. The towers are all oriented towards the existing monument, which acts as a reminder not only of other places, but also of other times. The volumes are arranged in such a way that the the image of the

ensemble is unitary.

duration:jewish quarter - 1st semesteresplanada - undergoing

year of study:5th

tutors:prof. arch. dorin stefan prof. arch. dan dinoiuprof. arch. ioana ardelean

The masterplan is the part of a full academic year project involving the regeneration of the traditional tissue due the interventions of the

communists.

Starting from the point of the actual Izvor Park, where the communists erased the Uranus neibourhood in order to create the Parliament

Building we cross the Lipscani street, the oldest street of Bucharest and reach the Esplanada site, fully empty, a relicve of the communist

intentions. In a mor specific way, this tissue developped itself along the Dambovita River.

The ex Jewis Quarter, were are site is situated seems like a cross-roads of multiple “ilots” This has lead to a solution that involes the need to rediscover our past by bringing the spirit of the place alive. This way,

we find it necesary to remake the pedestrian path as it was before the interventions and pointing out the plaza, which was the heart of the

jewish comunity.

The site is situated at the confluence of various tissue types

The main typology is living ( individual & collective ) with several office insertions due the central postion.

We have building related to one or two limits due the diversity of influences.

The main pole “Unirii Square” situated in the west has a great influence for the developping functions.

The site apears to be a void in the urban tissue, at the confluence of differemt influences., on the ex-Jewish Quarter. The zone behind the “communist walls” ( reffering to the commu-nist dwellings ) has developped chaotically leading to residual spaces.. The example we have, is more then a typical residual space, it is actually the end point of a historical route that connected the jewish quarter with the city center.

The site’s main problem is the existing blind walls

This may easily be solved uniting these two walls

But the existing ex-Jewis Theatre and the

Led to a atypical solution: the buildings starting from blind walls comunicate through a passage

SYAA Architecture Office was founded in 2006. It is one of the youngest office in Bucharest with a higher reputation due the numerous awards. Adrian Soare and Eliza Yokina - the founders are design lead-

ers whose collective talents led to critical acclaim and have brought the company a reputation brand - a signature of the

romanian contemporary architecture.

During the internship ( undergoing - finishing on may 2014 ) I have been involved in several projects including contests and proposals for

different clients. This provided me with a good experience, dealing with a large variety of architectural programs such as book fair stands,

airport control towers, industrial reconversion and housing.

Form follows function - and if so, the task was to find a new language for the way we make a control tower. Basically, all control towers are

organised like a “surveillance function sitting on a pillar” . This is about to change do the fact we are trying to propose a

new volumetric expresion.

The main ideea was to divide the pillar into 3 independent pillars each one having different functionality : staircase, elevator and equipments.

Stages The tower structure is a in-verted pendulum, consisting of three concrete cores and platforms resting on the three nuclei, located in the upper part of the tower.

Sliding formwork The foot is made in a sliding formwork system.

Vertical structure When performing the con-trol tower structure was taken into consideration by the high-importance of the building and high-rise regime.

Horizontal structure To achieve fixings bolted steel platforms the assembly will be provided with a temporary working platform attached with concrete pipes.

Floors Tile floors are made of reinforced concrete form-work, with the main beams supporting the trusses.

Mullions and Vigia The spatial-functional configuration, provides maximum visibility to the outside space and a well balanced and effective solution.

voluntari housing

program:housing

location:voluntari, romania

leanding architect:adrian soare

team:cosmin anghelache, razvan molie,

The client demanded two types of individual housing that should match each side of the site.: on the uper side coupled hoses ( 2 x 4 ) and

on the other side row houses ( 10 ). Our proposal was quite different, in order to find a new variety of disposing the houses, we proposed

to combine the two typologies in both rows, having related plans. The central location of the stairs gave birth to a large variety of proposals,

each house having it’s own identy based on the evolution of each owner,

Client’s demand

Proposal

The variation of planar arangement led to a solution that provided new spaces between the so-called “uncoupled coupled houses” ( refering to the blue squars that are not sharing a wall ). This way we provide a higher quality for some row-houses by enabling them to see beneth the other row.
