Chindambaram and other dignitaries visiting the KVK Stall KVK Participated in National Exhibition On Soybean For Household Food And Nutrition Security which was jointly organized by ICAR, TASS and NAAS during 21-22 March, 2014 at NASC complex New Delhi. On this event special exhibition was organized reflecting achievements of soya processing, its utilization and entrepreneurship development by selected KVKs. Washim KVK has also participated and arrange exhibition focused on soya processing, value addition and its utilization. Success stories, publication related to soya processing and major soya food product like Soya Atta, SoyaChips, Soya Ragi Chiwda, Soya Sticks, Soya Cookies etc.were exhibited in the KVK stall. Among the few dignitaries visited exhibition were Chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet Dr.R. Chidambaram, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR Dr. S. Ayyappan, Chairman, TAAS Dr. R.S. Programme was conducted during 25-29 March, 2014. Training programme was sponsored by National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad. Twenty five rural youths from village Karda, Ghobani, Mothagaon, Sawad, Kawtha, Chikali, Kalembeshwar, Regaon & Zogda of Washim District participated in training programme. The inauguration was done by Shri. S.K.Deshmukh, Programme Coordinator of KVK. Shri. Deshmukh in his inaugural speech appealed to the trainees to take the benefit of facilities at KVK and to start fish farming in existing farm ponds at their villages. Nowaday the fish fish has a great demand in rural area due to its price & its digestibility compared to other meat. To fulfill this demand there is need to culture the fish in available water resources in rural areas. Through this training programme it is possible to train the trainee regarding management practices & advance technology which will help to increase the production level. Other dignitaries on the dias were Dr. R.L.Kale, SMS (Fisheries), R.S.Daware, SMS, Plant Protection Dr. D.L. Ramteke, Animal Science, Mrs. Shubhangi Watane, Home Scientist and Project Assistant Rama Deshmukh were present. Shri Patil extending technical guidance on watennelon cultivation

Subject Matter Specialist, Horticulture DisciplineofKVK Karda Mr. Nivrutti Patil has got various requestsabout technical aspect of watermelon crop. Looking to theinterest and need of farmers from Risod block and withthe objective of end to end approach, one day trainingprogramme on watermelon cultivation and Marketingwas organised on io" Jan'14 at KVK Farm. KVK hasinvited leading seed company in vegetable seed i.e.Seminis to guide about good varieties in market and alsoinvitedVegetable exporter i.e. Nisarg Fresh to guide aboutthe market trend and demands. 24 farmers wereparticipated in training programme.

Post training visits were conducted by Mr.Nivrutti Patil and extended the technical support tofarmers for layout and other technical aspect. Finally asresults, out of 24 farmers 17 farmers have adopted thetechnology and cultivated Watermelon on 23 acres. KVKisproviding continuous support to these farmers. Seminishas provided seed on subsidise rate and Nisarg Fresh isproviding marketing information to these farmers..Farmers from Loni, Gobhani, Asegaon, Belkheda hassuccessfully cultivated Watermelon under the guidance ofMr.Nivrutti Patil.

One of the farmers, Mr. Laxman Khanzode fromvillageAsegaon has cultivated the watermelon on 3 acreswith advance technology of pla tic Mulching and Dripirrigation system. He has selected Sugar Box variety andprepared the seedlings by tray method on the roof of hishouse and transplanted on bed on 6xl ft spacing in zigzag

First harvest of crop is done in the last week of Marchand around 550 quintal of produce was sold @ Rs.500 perquintal from farm gate and again second and last harvest isexpected to be around 500 quintal. From the plot of 3 acres,Mr. Khanzode is expecting total income ofRs. 5 to 5.5 lackswith the net profit of around 2.75 to 3 lacks.

This is very good achievement from small durationcrop like watermelon, one can earn Rs. 1 lack per acre. Mr.Laxman Khanzode has given ideal example to farmers ofwas him District. Farmers from near by villages have visitedthe plot. Mr. Bali from CAlM, Risod cluster has alsoconducted exposure visit of farmers those have cultivatedwatermelon crop. Farmers were surprised by this plot andexpressing that they will follow the same technique on theirown field in next season.

for culture, fish feed types, management practices, role offertilizers in aquaculture, role of dissolved oxygen, Types ofAquatic weed & their role in fish farming were explained.Importance of natural and artificial feeds was also discussedin detail. After the theory period all the trainees were taken toAquaculture Unit sponsored by DST, New Delhi at KVKcampus for identification of species, aquatic weeds andnatural feed (Azolla).

During Valedictory Function Shri. R.S.Daware,SubjectMatterSpecialist,K V K ,explainedabout thestrategy formarketing offishes. Thecost ofproductionand salepr i c e was

discussed so as to arrive at a profitable solution while startingthe small scale units. Dr. D.L. Ramteke urged the farmers toadopt the integrated fish cum poultry farming system whichwill increase the productivity as well as production.

At the concluding session on 29.03.2014 certificateswere distributed to all trainees at the hands of Shri.S.K.Deshmukh and Dr. R.L.Kale. Mr. Rama Deshmukhoperated the power point presentation and helped in videoclippings and photographs.

Shri R. S. Daware addressing in the training programme

KVK Karda organized the ATMA MACP sponsoredtraining programmes at KVK campus during. 1Oth March2014 to 14 March 2014. Mr. R.S.Daware SMS PlantProtection KVK Karda the attended the training as aresource person on "Store Grain Pest Management" on 11March 2014.

Farm women and farmers from district attended thetraining as a trainee. During the technical sessionMr.R.S.Daware focus on the post harvest losses occurred indifferent food grain due to store grain pests. The nature ofdamage and pest biology of different store grain pests hasbeen discussed in detail with power point presentation TheDifferent preventive measures store grain pest had beensuggested by Mr.R.S.Daware during the technical session.Inhis further guidance he urged the participant to adopt lowcost eco friendly technique for store grain pest management.At the end of programme small group discussion was alsoorganized and Mr. R.S.Daware clarify the differenttechnical doubts raised by participant on store grain pestmanagement.

Kale his culture in the farm pond,Ornamental fish breeding, Fabrication of aquarium and itsmaintenance, Integrated fish cum duck farming and Polyculutre in the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra. Now hehas joined as a Programme Co-ordinator of KVK Kardafrom IstApri12014. He has completed Ph. D. during 2012 in"Studies on breeding behavior of C. batrachus i.e. AsianCatfish in the Vidharbha region of Maharashtra" from SantGadgebabaAmravati University, Amravati.

All sections of society are praising his selection as aprogramme co-ordinator and best wishes for his future.

Dr. K.B.Wanjari Consultant National FoodSecretary Mission (Pulses) Minsistry of Agriculture Govt.of India visited KVK Karda on 24thMarch 2014. At theoutset KVK staff members welcome Dr.Wanjari and briefedpresent status, activities under taken by KVK with regard topulses development in the district. Dr.Wanjari in hisguidance focussed on technology back stopping by KVK insmall but importance issues like seed treatment, timelysowing IPM, IDM etc and urged for documentation of thesuccess stories. At the end Dr.Wanjari appreciated KVK forpromoting chick pea JAKI 9218 cultivator in the district.

After technical discussion Dr. Wanjari visitedvarious demonstration units and recorded messages onSwaranant community radio station. KVK staffDr.R.L.Kale, Shri.R.S.Daware made efforts for this visit.

Suvide Foundation Krushi Vigyan Kendra Karda wasorganized training programme on "EntrepreneurshipDevelopment And Vegetable Processing" Under theMaharashtra Agriculture Competitiveness Project (ATMA)Washim during the period 17-02-014 to 21- 02 -014.In inaugural speech Mr. S.K. Deshmukh (P.C.KVK Karda)focus on Vegetable processing and to start small scalevegetable processing unit through women's SHG.

In technical session Ms. S.N. Watane (P.A. Homescience KVKKarda) explain the importance of vegetables inour daily diet. She told that vegetables are very importantbecause it removes the deficiency of vitamins and otherimportant nutrient in our body which is very necessary to usfor healthy life. She urged the women trainees to buyvegetables when cost was low and process it and makedifferent value added food product like tomato sauce,ketchup , chili sauce, chatani, potato wefers . She tookdemonstration on ttomato sauce, ketchup , chili sauce,chatani, potato wefers, papad and gave technical knowledgeabout machine and equipment used for making this foodproduct labeling, packing.

In this training programme Shri P.S. Ratanparkhi(I.CProject Officer MCED, Washim) guided the ruralwomen trainees on qualities of good entrepreneur,communication skill for marketing. In valedictory functionShri S.K. Deshmukh , Shri R.S. Dawere , Dr. R.L. Kale, ShriP. S. Ratanparkhi, Shri N.B. Patil, Shri D. L.
