WELCOME!When society faces challenges and difficulties, the support of

human rights often diminishes. We, as future physicians, have the responsibility to advocate for our patients? rights in accordance with The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International

Humanitarian Law and medical ethics. Our mission to do so never changes. However, the environment in which we live and work

calls for new tools to advocate and defend access to health care and the right to health.

We therefore wish that the SCORP Camp 2015 will provide its participants with a wide range of skills, assisting you in your

future career as well as in everyday life.

We hope to see you in beautiful Stockholm!

On behalf of SCORP Camp 2015 OC,

FROM THE PRESIDENT...

Dear IFMSA members,

As the President of IFMSA-Sweden I have the great pleasure of inviting you all to the SCORP Camp 2015. It will take place this summer in Stockholm - our beautiful capital

which is also my hometown!

So, how can I convince you all that this will be the greatest event ever? Let?s begin with a historical perspective..

I can proudly tell you that IFMSA-Sweden took an active part in the founding of the

International Federation of Medical Students? Associations, and has worked on projects related to Human Rights and Peace ever since the first General Assembly (GA). Today, more

than 60 years later, my beloved NMO consists of seven local committees and arranges three national GAs annually, apart from several other national events and meetings.

Our Swedish SCORPions are, today, active in several successful projects such as

?Healthcare for all? and ?LIVH? (where med students and immigrants meet in interactive workshops). During the past years IFMSA-Sweden has taken an active stand in important

processes resulting in legislation changes concerning equal rights to health care access. As a fairly liberal and progressive country, Sweden has a lot to offer in the field of Human

Rights and I believe it is the perfect location for SCORP camp 2015.

As IFMSA members, we all devote our time and energy trying to create meaningful change in the world. By gathering you, future healthcare leaders and human rights advocates, in

Stockholm this summer, we wish to create a truly eye-opening and unforgettable experience that can make use of all the passion and resources within our beloved

Federation.

Hope to see you in Stockholm in August!

Green hugs,

Michaela Franzén Malmros

President of IFMSA-Sweden 2015/2016

Dear SCORPions,

Health is a human right and not just a civil right. The right to health is the backbone of the health care system, including the mission of the undertaken

work of medical professionals. Implementing this human right is a collaborative responsibility of the whole global society. As future medical doctors and global health leaders, we the members of the IFMSA, have a

professional, humanitarian and political responsibility to act upon full and equal implementation of this human right. Since year 1983 IFMSA have a

standing committee guiding and implementing this part of the IFMSA vision and objectives. You, the SCOROPions, have for 32 years joined hands in order

to enhance awareness and implementation of Human RIghts. Future professionals from around the world share a joint vision of a society where all actors in the society, including medical students and health workers, provide

all people with full and equal access to their human rights. It is with dedication we together fight for this and each of your contributions are

equally important.

...AND THE

Page 7: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

The first step in order to be successful in your actions is your personal dedication, we all have our own history about why we decided to join IFMSA. The next step is to equip yourself with skills and knowledge on Human Right.

IFMSA provide medical students worldwide with a series of opportunity to enhance their knowledge and capacities to take actions on Human Right and Peace. In addition to trainings and workshops we host an annual five days

SCORP Camp, where future medical doctors meet, enjoy each other companies, learn important skillsets and talk about human rights.

The IFMSA SCORP Camp for year 2015 is hosted by IFMSA-Sweden. They warmly welcome you to the Northern Europe and are looking forward to host you. Do you want to have amazing summer memories and in the same time do an investment in your future career as well as your individual development?

Come to Sweden, learn about why the human rights was created; how the human rights result in ethical dilemmas in the healthcare system; the current global violations of human right and about what you can do to address these

in order to ensure best possible human right implementation.

Warm Regards and see you in Sweden - the country offcinnamon buns and Ikea,

Great strides have been made in the f ield of medicine; global l ife expectancy is increasing, child mortality is decreasing and every day progress is being made in f inding new and improved treatments for a wide range of medical conditions. However, not everyone will reap the benefits of this progress.

Every year, one bill ion people suffer because they are unable to access health services they need. 100 mill ion people annually are pushed below the poverty line due to paying for health services. Every day, people die because they lack access to healthcare.

"Progress is not measured by national or global averages, but by how well the health of the poor improves. If we miss the poor, we miss the point. "

- Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General, WHO

Access to healthcare has been subject to global concern for a long time, with three out of the eight millenium development goals including access to health services, and it is very likely that the Sustainable Development Goals will include Universal Health Coverage. The right to health is one of the fundamental human rights. As medical students, many of us have witnessed f irst hand how essential the healthcare system can be in ensuring that this right is fulf il led. It is easy to understand why access to health care is such a hot topic of discussion.

ACCESS TO

HEALTHCARE

THEME:

Page 11: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

seek out health care and there might even be a lack of knowledge needed to access the health care system. Factors outside the healthcare system can play a role, too, as for example, insuff icient infrastructure and unsafe environments may be a barrier to accessing health care.

While these barriers are tightly t ied into the local context of dif ferent communities, many share cross-cultural components. Therefore, learning from each other and working towards common solutions is part of the solution. During SCORP Camp, our theme events will aim to broaden your understanding of the many dif ferent barriers that l imit access to healthcare. The dif ferent workshops will give you skills to address some common barriers and work to further access to healthcare within your own communities. Medical students can and should play an important role in the shaping of a society where healthcare is accessible by all. During SCORP camp, we hope to help you along the way.

When we say access to healthcare, what are we really talking about? In some communities, there are formal barriers for obtaining health care. Resources may be too scarce and limited to provide adequate healthcare for everyone. Legal restrictions may limit the access to health care for specif ic groups such as refugees and young people. Legal restrictions may also limit the availability of certain kinds of health services, such as sexual and reproductive health services.

While addressing such essential restrictions in the access to health care, it?s also imperative that we take note of adequate health care services that are formally available, yet stil l not accessible for everyone.

This is due to informal barriers, which may be just as limiting as formal barriers. Health care may not be affordable for everyone, fear of stigma and discrimination may create reluctance to

Page 12: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

TRAININGSSCORP Camp 2015 consists of four parallel trainings. During the

application process you decide which training you prefer to follow.

- TRAINING NEW HUMAN RIGHTS TRAINERS -

SCORP stands for Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace, which is the exact theme that a Training New Human Rights Trainers (TNHRT) aims to cover. Init iated by SCORP and a pil lar stone of SCORP Camp, TNHRT creates ambassadors for human rights and humanitarian

value within healthcare as well as the broader community.

During the training, you will gain more knowledge on human rights and tools to advocate for them. You will also gain soft skil ls to train, inspire and empower others. After participating in the TNHRT, you will become a certif ied human rights trainer with skil ls to conduct trainings,

workshops and activit ies linked to human rights in your country or abroad.

Human rights are fundamental and inalienable for every human being, and basic knowledge is important for all. Possibly, it is of even greater importance for future health professionals, as

our role will be to help people in dif f icult situations. Even if you have not been active in SCORP before, you are more than welcome to participate in this training. After all, we are all humans,

human rights are applicable everywhere, and health in itself is also a fundamental right.

We will discuss the basic principles of human rights and the right to health. We will also address vulnerable groups, peace and conflict as well as roles and responsibil it ies in relation to human rights. The training is based on a peer-to-peer approach with emphasis on interactive exercises,

where participants from dif ferent countries will share experiences with each other.

I believe that all people are equal in worth and should be treated with respect, and when I found SCORP, I fell in love immediately. Currently, I am the National Officer on Human Rights and Peace

(NORP) in Sweden, and am more impressed by this standing committee than ever before. I attended the TNHRT during SCORP Camp 2014 in Jordan, and it was a wonderful experience with amazing

people. It gave me hope and inspiration to know that people from all over the world are uniting to stand up for human rights and peace, and I hope to see you there!

Head Trainer: Jessica Zhang

Page 13: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

- TRAINING NEW TRAINERS -

Members of IFMSA have never lacked the enthusiasm or the will to inf luence existing structures to include a greater respect for human rights. However, the majority of IFMSA?s members are young and inexperienced in this work and a lot of energy is therefore spent simultaneously trying to learn a lot of dif ferent things. Each new task confronted entails

uncharted waters and although it brings opportunities to learn it also means the investment of a huge amount of t ime to, in best case scenario, reach desired results. In the long run this

may result in f luctuating motivation to continue and for some, burnouts.

Regardless of the variety and uniqueness of the projects and tasks you will encounter there will, however, always be some things that will remain the same. These basics can be trained, developed. Once you know what it is you are lacking and are accustomed to work with your

own abilit ies, it will be easier to focus your energy and it is here a Training New Trainers comes into play.

A Training New Trainers (TNT) addresses these subjects that are shared between projects and aims to provide you and the other participants with a broad foundation in a variety of basic topics. It uses high pace and interactive workshops to challenge comfort zones, stimulate

creativity and shape self-consciousness. After the TNT, you will be tasked to conduct a training (workshop) of your own in a subject of your own choosing. Once completed, you will have the honour of joining the ranks of IFMSA?s international trainers and may take part in the

education of the next generation of medical students worldwide.

Does it sound intriguing, challenging or even a bit scary? Good, then a TNT is def initely something for you. Be you outgoing or shy, experienced or new, interested to teach or to

grow as a person, a TNT will help you to the next level.

I have been involved with IFMSA since the start of my studies and have been active in most areas of my local organisation. In the area of trainings, I started my journey by participate in a TNT in the

pre-GA in Baltimore 2013. What I learned back then have helped me a lot in a number of different projects and undertakings, and ignited a passion for teaching. Today I am a so called old trainer (I

have taken part in a Training of Old Trainers, TOT) and have experience from giving workshops and lectures in a number of subjects, mostly nationally but also internationally. I bid you a warm

welcome and hope to see you in Sweden!

Head Trainer: Joakim Bergman

Page 14: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

- INTERNATIONAL PEER EDUCATION TRAINING -

International Peer Education Training (IPET) is a workshop intended to empower medical students to take an active role in health promoting programs aimed at youth, especially

those concerned with sexual and reproductive health and rights with a focus on HIV/AIDS. For the participants it will be a unique chance to learn how to set up, maintain and evaluate a peer education program. Participants will also learn how to improve and develop already

existing peer education programs.

Peer to peer education is an alternative to traditional education that may be more successful for reaching and promoting health in vulnerable or marginalized populations.

While IPET has been init iated by members of the Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS (SCORA), the methods used and skills learned can

also be very useful for promotion of health and rights in other f ields.

IPET will also give the participants a broader knowledge about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We will discuss human rights and their implications for sexual and

reproductive rights and the health effects of the infringement of those rights. The workshop will address common barriers to accessing SRHR and empower the participants

to adress these issues in their local communities as well as on the international level.Lastly, IPET is all about gaining useful and important skil ls while stil l having lots of fun! The

workshop is built upon interactive exercises in order to share experiences and help participants to enjoy the sessions. If you attend this workshop, you're likely to leave not

only f il led with inspiration and knowledge, but also with a set of l ifelong friends.

I started working with our Swedish peer education program och sexual health in 2012 and quickly fell in love with it. In 2014, I attended an IPET in Tunisia and an advanced IPET in Catalonia. The enthusiasm and passion of IFMSA peer educators never fails to inspire me!

I'm sure that this IPET will be an unforgettable experience and I hope to see you there.

Throughout history, physicians have had an important and unique role in society. Being medically knowledgeable, we have constantly served as the gatekeepers between life and

death. Humans have therefore turned to physicians in times of weakness, often being wounded, sick or having a beloved family member in dire need.

Physicians have however been involved in unethical behavior and even war crimes, showing the risk of abusing great power. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights,

International Humanitarian Law and medical ethics evolved in response to such actions and can be seen as a commitment by medical society to act in accordance to ethics and human

rights.

This training aims to build capacity among future physicians. Through 5 engaging days, the group will develop ideas and actions to advocate and act in accordance with the Universal

Declaration of Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law and medical ethics. Above all, you will develop concrete tools and skills to advocate the rights of your future patients.

This continuation course will focus on the clinical perspective, addressing everyday life at the clinic as well as in emergencies.

It is our f irm belief that this training is of greater importance than ever before. When society faces challenges and dif f iculties, the support for human rights often diminish. Nonetheless the role of physicians remains, giving us an even greater responsibil ity to

speak up for the wounded, sick and meanless. Our mission to do so does not change, but the environment in which we live and work calls for new ways to advocate and defend

access to health care and the right to health.

- HUMAN RIGHTS FOR MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS -ADVANCED TRAINING IN HUMAN RIGHTS AND ETHICAL PRINCIPLES IN CLINICAL SETTINGS

We are very excited to conduct this new workshop during SCORP Camp. In the past we have collaborated in facilitating the SRT:

Health Care in Danger (Stockholm, Dec 2014) and we are currently co-ordinating one of the Pre-EuRegMe workshops in Denmark (April 2015). Hana has been Local Officer on Human Rights and

Peace in Stockholm, working within and leading different SCORP projects in Sweden and is currently the SCORP Regional Assistant

for Europe. Anna co-started the SCORP project LIVH and has facilitated the development of HCiD symposiums and trainings.

She has also facilitated lectures and workshops through a number of organizations, including Foodfirst Information and Action

Network, the Swedish Red Cross Youth and IFMSA.

STOCKHOLMWe are truly happy to host you in Stockholm during SCORP camp and Post-CORP camp.

It?s not surprising that Stockholm is called ?the Venice of the north?, as all canals and bridges give this Scandinavian capital a charm of its own. Stockholm is made of several

islands, which all have their own character.

Page 19: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

During SCORP camp you will stay and have your training at a very special place. We call it Barnens Ö ?The children?s island?. Located in the Stockholm archipelago, here you will experience Swedish nature outside the city hub. Surrounded by blue waters and green forests, you will be staying in cottages overnight and also have your daily training and social activities here. Don?t worry, we are arranging transportation throughout the conference. Apart from learning a lot and having fun with amazing people from all over the world, you will have the opportunity to relax and clean your thoughts and get tons of fresh air during these days. After this you will be ready to explore the Stockholm city life.

At the cottages you will find everything you

need, including a sauna! The rooms will be shared with other participants. All together you will have an unforgettable memory of a Swedish summerhouse adventure, with people from all over the world.

The best and easiest way to travel to Sweden is by flight to either Stockholm Arlanda Airport or Stockholm Skavsta Airport. Regardless, you can take the airport coaches (flygbussarna) from the airport to

Stockholm Central Station (Cityterminalen).

You will be picked up at Stockholm Central Station (Cityterminalen) at established hours by our volunteers who will accompany you to the Karolinska Institute. From here pre-hired buses will take you to the venue.

During SCORP Camp, transportation will be offered in accordance with the social program. Participants might need to buy a metro card, in which case assistance will be given by our volunteers. More

information will be provided later.

On the departure day of SCORP Camp a transportation service will be provided for those who are leaving to Stockholm central station where delegates easily can take the airport coaches from Stockholm central

station to their airport.

FOOD & ACCOMMODATION

During post-SCORP you will be lodged in a modern hostel located centrally at

the hipster mecca Södermalm. As such, despite the long nights awaiting, you will stil l be able to get back to the

hostel in no time. Assuming the Nordic early sunrise will wake you up

in spite of your adventures the previous night, a vegetarian breakfast

will be provided with the standard items early in the mornings.

Sweden, and especially Stockholm, is renowned for its unique cuisine. In the course of the days, Swedish food will be provided, making sure

that your taste buds experience things never sensed before. As

Stockholm is also a multicultural city, however, we will make sure

that you will be able to see glimpses of that as well, taking you

to some of the more recently established food courts.

Nonetheless you will stil l be available to visit restaurants of your

choice during the free hours planned.

Page 30: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

TRANSPORT

As Stockholm is a rather large city there will be quite a bit of walking but the main transportation will be carried out by the

public transportation system.

During post-SCORP camp we will primarily travel through the underground system, with some trips done by bus and boats. Nevertheless, we will make sure that you will have plenty of t ime to just

take a stroll through the picturesque parts of the city, simply enjoying summer in

Stockholm on your own. All t ickets to the public transport will be included.

When post-SCORP camp is over volunteers will take you to the central station, where you will take the airport bus back, either to Arlanda or Skavsta, depending on where your f l ight will

depart from.

Page 31: Invitation Package SCORP Camp 2015

?Traditional with international inf luences? - is perhaps the best way to describe the wide variety of food and drink in Sweden. The specials vary throughout the long narrow country and offer everything from customary meatballs to sushi take-out. Changing with the seasons there is always a way of celebrating some kind of food festive in Sweden. The cuisine is strongly

associated to certain ? or lets say all- holidays. Easter, Christmas, Midsummer, crayf ish august, and Lucia day ? it all comes with its own delicious food. The fact that waff les, semlor (almondcream f il led buns with whipped cream) and cinnamon buns all have their own separate day in the Swedish calendar shows that swedes really love their food.

DISHES

The best known Swedish culinary tradition is the meatballs and the smorgasbord. Meatballs served with potatoes, gravy and lingon berry jam is as Swedish as anything can get.

Smorgosbord - meaning a buffet with numerous dif ferent dishes - is how the food is served for most holiday dinners in Sweden.

Fika is what makes Sweden go round. Fika is simply a sweet snack - coffee with pastries. You have it between breakfast and lunch or in the afternoon ? or at any given time of the day!

DRINKS

Schnaps is a small shot of alcohol (akvavit or vodka) taken during the course of a meal. The tradition is to sing a song before drinking it. After singing you say ?skål? (cheers) and then you drink.

Must is a carbonated drink usually served during chrismas and easter, similar to a soda. Made in 1910, it was meant to be a non-alcoholic drink tasting similarly to beer. Various spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg are part of the secret recipe.
