We are so excited to have the oppor-
tunity to partner with the Seattle
Sounders Rave Foundation with their
Science of Soccer Program. This
program will be offered this fall to
youth attending our after school
programs at the Highlands Neighbor-
hood Center. The Science of Soccer
teaches Science, Technology, Engi-
neering and Math using soccer as the
subject. It includes PE, Math and
Science lessons aligned with the
Washington state K-12 learning
standards. Additionally, Renton will
be partnering with the Sounders on a
3-day summer camp for families with
income limitations.
Thank you Seattle Sounders Rave
Foundation for supporting our
Renton youth and the community!
SEATTLE SOUNDERS
SCIENCE OF SOCCER!
INVESTING IN THOSE WHO INVEST IN US The Renton Senior Activity
Center received King County
Veterans, Seniors and Human
Services Levy grant funds that
support our senior center,
continuing to make it an inclu-
sive and diverse hub in the
community!
With the grant funds we part-
nered with the Mayor’s Inclusion
Task Force and the Renton
Senior Citizen’s Advisory Board
to identify the needs, wants and
barriers faced by seniors in our
city. With this feedback, we are
expanding programming and
services to invest in the senior
population.
Additionally, grant funds were
utilized to install a hearing loop/
induction system to serve the
hearing impaired, and to mod-
ernize the much used and loved
coffee bar, to continue to utilize
the space and support it as a
safe, fun and social place!
FUN, INSPIRING, REWARDING...those are the words that
Tom Puthoff uses to describe his job...but those are also
the words that others use to describe him! Tom has been
making an impact in the lives of kids in our community
since 1993 when he first started as a camp counselor. For
more than 26 years he has watched Renton’s youth
develop into great adults...some of which come to the
Renton Highlands Neighborhood Center with their own
kids. Tom serves as a Recreation Program Coordinator,
and is instrumental in developing staff, leading the
Renton Youth Council and is always a familiar face for
both kids and families at the Renton Highlands Center.
Thank you Tom for all that you do and all those you
inspire!
