Inversion is the method of obtaining different mechanism from single kinematic chain by fixing different links in turn.

Types of mechanisms :a) Four bar chain mechanism – this mechanism consist of all four turning pair. 1) coupled wheel of locomotive, 2) beam engine.
b) Single slider crank chain mechanism – this mechanism consist of three turning pair and one sliding pair. 1) rotary IC engine, 2) with worth quick return mechanism, 3) crank and slotted lever mechanism.
c)Double slider mechanism – this mechanism consist of two turning pair and two sliding pair.
1)scotch yoke mechanism , 2) Oldham’s coupling.

Four bar chain mechanism1) Coupled wheel of locomotive
Purpose is to transmit the rotary motion of one wheel to another.

2) Beam engine mechanism
• Purpose is to convert rotary motion to reciprocating motion.• Application is to drain water or oil from mines.
