landslide monitoring sensor which is able to act as a forecaster of the landslide for a particular area isbrainstormed. Before the this sensor is being used on a specific land, data such as 10 days antecedent rainfallamount for each landslide area and cumulative amount of rainfall to trigger landslide are gathered andcalculated. Based on the amount obtained, the sensor is then positioned to a height where amount of wateronce exceed this height will cause landslide to occur. Once the amount of water go beyond this critical level, alarm will bued and it can only be turn off manually by the user.

    BackgroundBackground

There are many types of detector !geophone, strain gauge and soil moisture detector" available which capable

of discover any microscopic changes in soil for instance like moisture, pore pressure and vibration and thenreact to alert the nearby people. # geophone is a device which converts ground movement !displacement"into voltage, which may be recorded at a recording station. Besides, a strain gauge is used to measure thestrain of an ob$ect !a metallic foil pattern which supported by an insulating flexible backing" which caused bythe movement of the soil. %astly, soil moisture sensor measures the water content in soil since water has ahigh dielectric constant& high water concentration causes a higher average dielectric constant for the soil. Theaverage dielectric constant can be sensed by measuring the speed of propagation along a buried transmissionline. These detectors are competent of detecting minuscule changes or infinitesimal processes occur in soiland however they are a costly one. Thus, rain gauge !is a cylinder which measures precipitation in millimetersin a certain amount of time" selected as a prior product' art, basis of design of our landslide monitoring sensorand modifications and improvement are made to it so that its functionality and operative methods is dissimilar

    to the rain gauge.

Value of the Invention & CommercialisationThe landslide detector is intended to predict the occurrence of landslide and thus reduce fatalities. (owever, not everyone can afford these highly cost advanced landslide detectors especially the poorer community, andthus fatalities continue to rise to a $eopardie level. )urthermore, some of these detectors are designed in sucha way that corresponds to the root cause of landslide in which the root cause might not be the triggeringfactor of landslide in other countries. )or instance, geophone is designed to detect vibration of soil due toearth*uake but this can only be found in some western countries especially in those earth*uake active regions.Tropical country such as +alaysia, ndonesia, Thailand and others is free from this region. Thus, ourlandslide detector not only affordable by everyone but at a same time it provides a better solution to prevent

the landslides to occur in +alaysia. )irst and foremost, our landslide monitoring sensor is a life savingdevice. Based on research, there are -0/ number of fatalities due to landslide triggered by rainwater acrossglobal each year and this is not the complete number yet. +any forests and lands near hillside have beenexcavated to meet the demand of populated people increasing every year. #s a conse*uences, structure ofland changed and becomes highly unstable once contact with rainwater. Thus it is expected more landslideswill happen and more fatalities and loss of property due to landslide, hence our landslide monitoring sensor isthe solution we offer to this problem. ext, compare to current technology such as geophone, unnecessary, expensive parts and other maintenance costs can be avoided with the use of simple, efficient and yet costeffective device such as our landslide monitoring sensor and estimation of + 112340 can be salvaged for a

particular area every year with the use of our invention. #s mentioned, more residential and industrial areasare build near hillside and if landslide is a trending phenomenon as what we observing right now, land

development companies and city councils are most likely to infringe our patent as this invention will favorthem the most. The infringements could be detected in a various way. )irst, periodically visiting hillside areasand scanning the lands for similar technology as our patent. 5econd, the end product of the manufacturing

Of course, a competitor is unlikely to provide access to its facilities, especially for the purpose of inviting a patent infringement lawsuit. 7e may therefore be forced to resort toalternative methods for detecting infringement, such as scouring competitors6 websites or technicaldocumentation for admissions evidencing infringement.

The invention is not exactly same as the prior product !rain gauge", and thus it is considered as novel. )romthe functionality of both devices, rain gauge is only used to measure precipitation of !aterwithout

discharging the water out, however precise calculation is being made to our invention so that dischargingwater is controlled and allow accumulation of water to take place in the container. Our invention is intendedto predict occurrence of landslide with constant flowing out of water. Besides, the 2= standard rain gaugehas three components< # large outer container called the overflow can, which is 2 inches in diameter andalmost 4 inches tall& a brass or clear plastic measure tube, which is .: inches in diameter and 0 inchesdeep& a copper or white plastic collector !funnel", which is 2 inches in diameter. 8ontrast to our invention, itdoes not have the overflo! can and funnel and has additional featuressuch as wire holder which carrying bare wires connected to a circuit box which comprises an integrated circuit which could not be found in arain gauge. +oreover, the sie is different to suit our calculation.

    >1? #n area is picked and analysis regarding the rainwater to trigger landslide is done to get the averageamount of rainwater on a monthly or weekly basis re*uired to induce landslide. >? The wire holder !" is

positioned to the height based on the amount calculated in step 1. >/? # hole with depth of 1:0mm is dug andthe landslide monitoring sensor in placed into the hole. >4? The landslide monitoring sensor is then left tocollect water. >:? f the rainwater of that day less than the average amount, the container will drain out all thewater& f the rainwater is more than the average amount, and then it will start to accumulate water. >-?8ontinuous or heavy rainfall will cause the accumulation of the water until it reaches the critical level. >@? The

buer will produce sound once the critical level is exceeded and it can only be turned off manually by theuser. This is to ensure that the landslide monitoring sensor gives enough time to the nearby people by alertingthem to react and escape from the upcoming landslide.
