What are your options?

Why do you need an Intruder Alarm?

An intruder alarm system is designed to detect the presence of anintruder at your premises - trigger a local siren to deter activity and

communicate the alarm event to a security monitoring centre so an

appropriate response can be coordinated.

The objectives of an intruder alarm system are:

To protect the physical assets within an unoccupied premises•

To provide a safer environment for occupants•

To deter crime and vandalism•

To enable a co-ordinated response to be actioned when an intrusion•

event occurs

An intrusion alarm system must first detect the intruder and this is best

achieved by installing a combination of detection devices throughout

your premises.

Commonly deployed intrusion detection devices include:

Movement sensors•

Break glass sensors•

 Vibration sensors•

Smoke detectors•

Duress and hold-up alarms•

Door and window devices•

The key to a successful intruder alarm system is the carefull selection and configuration of the control

panel and detection devices to suit the level of risk and environment. This maximises the ability for

intrusion events to be detected and minimises unwanted false alarms.

Typical Intruder alarm system

Important considerations when selecting an intruder alarm system:

The correct positioning of your intrusion detection devices is essential for effective system•

performance. Too few detectors may result in an intrusion event going undetected. Additionally, the

selection of inferior quality detection devices will inevitably lead to false alarms.

The LCD keypad will generally be used on a daily basis to turn the system on and off, as well as check•

the status of the system. One or more simple yet informative conveniently located LCD keypads areessential as the alarm system must be easy to operate.

A siren and strobe acts as a strong deterrent to intruders, so it must be located out of reach to avoid•

tampering, yet prominently displayed to alert those nearby when an alarm occurs.

In this ever changing world your premises, staff and operational requirements regularly change. An•

alarm control panel needs to be designed with flexibility in mind so that it is expandable to cater for

your future needs.

The communications link to the monitoring centre is an important consideration. Intruder alarm panels•

provide a number of choices including dialup over standard telephone lines, mobile GSM / GPRS and

IP (broadband) networks.

Intruder Alarm Control Panel

The control panel is the central device in any intruder alarm system. All devices are

connected back to this electronic device which is programmed to take into account the

unique requirements of each business.

LCD Keypad

Control LCD keypads are usually located at entry and exit points. They are used to arm and

disarm the intruder alarm panel and provide status information regarding the current state of

the panel and devices.

Movement Detectors

There are various movement detectors which can be used to detect motion indoors. Passive

infrared detectors are designed sense the presence of body within a range of about 12m,

although longer ranges are possible.

Reed Switches

Are installed on the doors and windows on the perimeter of the premises to detect a forced

entry and to ensure the premises are properly closed before arming the intruder system.

Glass Break Detectors

Glass Break detectors sense the sound of breaking of glass, and these devices can be

an effective deterrent in stopping further unwanted activity as they trigger an alarm at the

moment of entry.

Duress Buttons

Duress or hold-up buttons are generally discreetly located near staff that are located in

vulnerable positions. When they feel threatened they simply press the button where an

alarm is generated and a response will occur.

 Vibration Detectors

Vibration alarms are installed on walls, windows and secure containers and detect the

minute movements that occur when an intruder attempts to penetrate the surface and gain

entry.

Management Software

Management software packages enable the convenience of configuring and running audit

reports of your intruder alarm system from your desktop PC. Software can be provided to

display customised maps, time and attendance and specific activity reports.
