Idaho is U.S. state located in the northwestern part of the country. The state's capital and largest city is Boise. Idaho has significant industries, which include manufacturing, agriculture, mining, forestry, and tourism.

Idaho has a strong unemployment rate at 3.2, which has dropped from 3.6 in December 2016. The labor force participation has been increasing and has been higher than the national average. Idaho’s job market has been providing opportunities to the increasing labor force, making Idaho one states in the country to have the lowest unemployment rates. This has also contributed to an increase in GDP from $58,105 million in 2012 to 67,275 million in 2016.

Idaho has taken several key steps to develop its commercial marketplace. In 2012, Idaho lowered both personal and corporate income taxes and, in 2013, Idaho exempted more than 90% of Idaho’s businesses from paying personal property tax.

This level of tax benefits has encouraged many businesses to set up offices in Idaho. This has bolstered sectors such as advanced manufacturing, aerospace, tourism, energy, commuter technology and innovation, etc.

1. Advanced manufacturing: Manufacturing is big business in Idaho. It accounts for 14.7% of the state’s private sector GDP and employs 5.5% of the total workforce. In 2014, Idaho’s manufacturers produced more than $8.14 billion in goods which is a 39% increase over 2004. The state’s advanced manufacturing industry is driven by businesses large and small that produce food, computer and electronic products, transportation equipment, medical equipment, system and process equipment, chemicals and plastic products, wood products, fabricated metal products, and machinery. On December 17, 2012 Chobani opened one of the world’s largest yogurt-processing plants in Twin Falls, Idaho. The one million square-foot facility cost $450 million and employs 300 people. The state expects the total economic impact of Chobani’s business there to be $1.3 billion.

Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, the privately-held company employs more than 10,000 people worldwide with annual revenues of $6 billion. 4. Aerospace: Idaho’s airspace and technological capabilities make Idaho uniquely positioned to play a significant role in the research, development, and testing of aviation-related products. Currently, northern Idaho is home to more than three-dozen aerospace companies, and more are landing in the region every year. This diverse array of small and mid-size businesses employ about 650 people who are involved in the production and service of aircrafts. In addition to commercial and private aviation businesses, Idaho is also taking advantage of its vast airspace to begin an Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) program, with the goal of becoming a leader in supporting the integration of unmanned aircraft into the nation’s airspace.

Empire Airlines: Empire Airlines is a passenger and cargo airline based in Hayden, Idaho, near Coeur d'Alene. It operates over 120 scheduled cargo flights a day in 18 US states and Canada. They also build and fix planes, train and educate flight crews and mechanics, serve major air cargo companies, help airline startup companies get off the ground, and provide unmanned flight surveillance.

Western Aircraft: Based in Boise, Western Aircraft is one of the West's largest aircraft services companies offering maintenance, aircraft sales, avionics sales & installation, aircraft part sales, FBO services, airline fueling, aircraft charters, & aircraft management. The company began as the corporate flight department for the Morrison Knudsen Corporation that was headquartered in Boise, ID 60 years ago. 5. Technology and Innovation: Idaho is home to the only US-based memory chip maker, Micron Technology, and is the center of Hewlett-Packard’s highly profitable Imaging and Printing Group, which introduced the HP LaserJet printer. Nearly 50,000 people work in Idaho’s innovation industry, and they’re pushing technology boundaries, launching start-ups, and fueling further growth and discovery. Technology and innovation are strong drivers of Idaho’s economy. This has led the number of high-tech companies in the state grew 61% over the past decade.

Hewlett-Packard: The world’s largest technology company, HP established it printer division in Boise in 1973, immediately putting the Boise Valley on the map as a hub for technology innovation. The company’s first LaserJet printer was developed in Boise nearly 30 years ago, and since then HP has amassed a portfolio that spans printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure. With more than 4,000 employees, Hewlett-Packard is one of the Boise Valley’s largest employers.

Boise City-Nampa: Backed by mountains, blessed with sunny weather, the Boise Valley is earning national acclaim like no other midsize city in America. Lactalis has invested nearly $200 million and nearly tripled the number of employees since they acquired the plant in 1999 from J.R. Simplot Company.

1. Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry: ACI represents about 300 Idaho employers of all sizes in such diverse fields as agriculture and food service, technology, accounting firms and banks, utilities, manufacturing and construction, as well as chambers of commerce from Idaho's large and small cities and associations representing a wide variety of interests in this quest to shape policy for a bright economic future.

2. Idaho Economic Development Association (IEDA): IEDA brings together economic development professionals, development organizations, and partners from across the state of Idaho. Idaho and Israel have a strong relationship, which has led to an increase in trade between them. Exports from Idaho have grown considerably from $14,856,574 in 2014 to $22,136,901 in 2016. Major exports included food products, computer and electronic products, and machinery (except electrical). Imports from Israel into Idaho have considerably decreased over the past two years. Idaho imported imported $56,351,921 worth of good in 2014, which has dropped to $22,926,165 in 2016. Chief good that were imported were computer and electronic products, machinery (except electrical) and plastic and rubber products.
