Workplace based assessments -MINIMUM requirement in ST1 -1

• 6 CbD - 2 per 4 month training post• 6miniCEX -2 per 4 month training post• 2 MSF – Each MSF must have at a minimum of 5

replies from clinical staff– so ask more than 5 people to complete this for you each time and you should get 5 back!

• An MSF needs to be completed each time over a 6 week time frame or it wont count – keep an eye on how many people have replied

• (LTFT trainees- assessments are pro-rata, so the same number will be done over the whole training period)

How to complete assessments

• Refer to the college guide on the eportfolio

• This will involve you downloading forms and ticket codes for your assessors to complete each assessment– sounds complicated but isnt too difficult

PDP

• RCGP guidance: a minimum of one PDP item for every six month period of review.

• In ST1 and ST2 aim to generate a PDP for each placement following a review of the learning objectives and discussion with your Clinical Supervisor.

• In a four month placement it is unlikely you will cover all the possible learning outcomes so:

– Prioritize based on your previous experience (lack of experience), your personal interests and your awareness of your future role as a GP

– Make them SMART Specific Measurable, Attainable Realistic and Time sensitive

– Consider also the unique opportunities your placement may offer you and learning opportunities that might be difficult to access once the placement is complete.

PDP

•Tick off the PDP entries when learning achieved

•Your PDP is looked at by the faculty at 6mnths into each year and by the GP School at the end of each training year

14

General Practice

Educational Supervisor (ES) reviews (2 per year)

• Before every ES review you MUST complete a self assessment, (rating and comments) of each of the 12 competency areas documented in your eportfolio

• Your ES will then with you present, make his/her ratings and comments on each competency area

• Your curriculum coverage, skills log, PDP and learning log are also commented on by your ES in the review

• A judgement is then made on your competency progression (the aim is to show progression throughout the 3y scheme)

• If your assessments, reviews, learning logs, PDP are all satisfactory you are automatically moved to the next year of training or signed off at the end of ST3
