Introduction to the Danubius National Boating Club and of the 21th gróf Széchenyi István Memorial Regatta and Sportday

About the Danubius National Boating Club 1/2• Founded in 1991, with the merge of the

„Nemzeti Hajós Egylet” (National Boating Club) founded by count Széchenyi in 1841, and the Danubius Rowing Club

• Operates since 1880 actively on the Margaret Island in various locations through time. Now with two floating houses and a stone building on the Buda side

• Cca. 250 persons use our facilities on a weekly basis, where we offer the teaching of rowing from the youngest to the oldest generation , the 3rd largest rowing club in Hungary, the only remaining in the centre of Budapest.

About the Danubius National Boating Club 2/2• Main activity is competitive rowing backed by

strong free time rowing, and other sport activities (running, weight room, ergometer, etc.)

• We are active on national and international level, winning 6-12 national titles a year and delegating 3-6 persons to the different national squads

• Our goal is to teach the young as well the older generation the beauty of rowing, the respect of nature and to maintain rowing on the Margaret Island in the heart of Budapest as the last Boating Club here

Season Opening gróf Széchenyi István Memorial Regatta and Sportday

• Held since 1991, each year • In the last 8 years it became the largest amateur rowing event of the

year, moving cca. 500 persons on the water and about 800 persons as spectators

• From the youngest to the mid aged generation generally• Company and student rowing became the focus in the last years• Organized with the support of various persons, organizations, media

(Local and Hungarian level)

Companies Regatta• We host various events for companies, which are closed with a general final of

the finalist who have been selected in the course of the special „industry” races. • In 2010 special „industry” race was held for the Engineers , for the oil industry,

separately for MOL and a general race of the „other” teams• In the last years we have worked together with big multinational company teams

like ExxonMobil, Shell, Lukoil, MOL; Geberit; mid and small sized Hungarian companies like Microsec (IT), Magyar Factor (building), Naplopó kft (solar); but as well organizations like the National Competition Agency have been rowing with us.

• In 2010 cca. 220 persons rowed in these competitions on a 500m long course

Event of 2011 – the „Budapest Cup”• With the regatta of 2011 we object to organize,

besides the traditional disciplines, an international „Head race” for eights on a 4500 long course on the Danube for the Budapest Cup 2011 as tradition setting for the future

to over come the cost or simply the difficulties of organising our international event
