Speech and SongWhat is the difference between speech and song? • Song has a rhythm and usually has strong
meaning, but speech can be very monotonous
What is a poem?A piece of writing that partakes of the nature of both speech and song, and that is usually rhythmical or metaphorical
Do poems have to rhyme?
Absolutely not! Poems do not have to rhyme. A poem is a poem as long as it fits the criteria of the specific poem you are writing.
What are some different kinds of poems?

Acrostic poemsAn acrostic poem is a poem with words that continue a sentence:

LimericksWe will not be writing limericks, but here is an example:

So now what?Begin by writing a paragraph(5-7 sentences) about what a poem is.Write your own poem, using the information from the presentation. Write one of the 3 poems: Acrostic, cinquain, or alphabet.
