• Internet is publicly accessible network of interconnected computers which communicate via software protocol standards.

• Internet has become a global infrastructure with no central control.

• A Local Area Network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated devices that share a common communications line or wireless link.

• Website A collection of pages that contain numerous types of information (text, image, voice) which can be either static or dynamic

• Domain Name A unique name used to identify the name of a computer server such as web server or email server in the computer or internet.Examples: fk.ugm.ac.id, libmed.ugm.ac.id

• Subscription to an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

• Using a telephone line (telkomnet instant, speedy, etc) and extra device called modem.

• Using GPRS / 3G modem, generally found in cellular phones.

• Direct access to the website addressThis is made possible when we know the website address we want to access.

• Accessing through a search engineWhen we do not know the website address we want to access, we can use search engines such as: google.com, search.yahoo.com, search.msn.com, bing.com, etc.

• You have to register for a WiFi access

• Prior to access you have to complete registration form and submit a copy of your library card to staff at IT Room Floor 2.

• Access through login portal to get connected to Intranet as well as Internet.

• One account can only be used for one laptop/ access device.
