Section 1: usually descriptive and factual. There are two or more texts based on social situations.
Section 2: usually descriptive and factual. There are two texts based on course related situation.
Section 3: usually argumentative. There is one text which tests general reading comprehension.

Writing for IELTS :
Academic Writing:Task 1: you are given a picture or
graph and you are expected to write at least 150 words in 20 minutes.
Task 2: you are given a topic and you are expected to write at least 250 words in 40 minutes.
General Training Writing:Task 1: you are expected to write a
letter in at least 150 words.Task 2: you are expected to write
an essay in at least 250 words.
