INTRODUCTION On the 21 st January 2015, BICO had an outreach through its Youth Ministry program. The Youth Ministry responded to the flood disasters that hit many parts/districts (15) in Malawi, most of them being in the southern region. Many people lost their lives while others were dispersed due to their homes being washed away or falling of their houses. On this outreach BICO staff together with the officer responsible went to donated assorted items to Mmariha village in chigumula, Blantyre. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Youth Ministry is a new small programme in BICO. It supports youth who are born again Christians and are involved in Ministries at their local churches. Most of the time they are given travel and upkeep grants that would be beneficial to the youths after they attend youth conference, seminar or retreat. The ministry gets its funding direct from the BICO Director (Prof Khumbo Kalua). Youths lying between the ages of 15 to 30, usually submit applications to the coordinator of the programme specifying the seminar/conference they would like to attend and its importance. The ministry is not biased to denomination because no denomination is given preference than the other. METHODOLOGY For NGO’s or well-wishers to donated items to the flood victims, they are required to seek authorization from the Blantyre City Council. The authorities usually brief NGO’s and well-wishers on how and where the items should be donated. It was done in this manner because most well-wishers were just going to a single location i.e chilobwe township to donate the items. In Blantyre the most hit townships with the flooding and collapsing of houses were Chilobwe, Makhetha, Kachere, Ndirande, Chigumula and Mbayani. The council allocated BICO to Chigumula Township in Mmariha village. Mmariha wasn’t the only area hit by the floods but it had more victims who were dispersed. In this village there were 58 people that had nowhere to sleep, 171 houses that were completely demolished and 12 casualties. ACTIVITIES INVOLVED The donation process was done at Mzamba primary school where all people who were dispersed were accommodated. On this day the people that were present were the Deputy Major who is also a councillor of the city of Blantyre Mr Ndipo, Mr Mpinganjira from council offices, Chief Mmariha and his subordinates, VDC, s and BICO staff. Before presenting the items to victims, there were speeches from the village chief (Mmariha), representative from the city council (Mr Mpinganjira), deputy major (Mr. Ndipo) and then Youth Ministry coordinator (Alvin chisambi). The items were then presented to the Deputy Major who handed them to the victim committee.

CONCLUSIONIn conclusion, this was the first donation of its kind done by BICO through its youthministry. They have promised to do such charity activities when need arise. Eventhough the amount used to purchase the food and none food items might seem low butit had to add value to the lives of the people that suffered during the floods. The youthministry usually targets the youths but the youth don’t just come from the blues somelive with their parents (guardians), so when parents suffer the youths and childrensuffer too that is why the youth ministry thought of giving the relief aid to children, youths, adults and the elderly. The village chief and deputy major thanked the ministryfor the relief service because there are many organisation out there that are notshowing their social responsibility and they also urged other organization to followwhat BICO and other big organization have done.
