Milestones of the Unior corporation

From Styria to the worldOn the outskirts of the Pohorje Mountains, the first ironworks (foundries) were establishedin the 18th century.They operated as larger forges, in which land and tradesmens tools werefashioned by hand.

In 1919 the tajerska elezoindustrijskadruba (Styrian Iron Industry Company)forging plant, with the shortened nametajerska Zree, was established. Itproduced forged hand tools for farming,forestry and various other trades.

In 1950 the plant, burned down duringthe war and partially renovated in theyears following the war and bearing thenew name of Tovarna kovanega orodjaZree(TKO) came under state ownership.New capacities (tool shop and hand toolsmechanical processing plant) comprisedthe basis for developing two productionlines: hand tools and drop forgings.

In the 1970s the plant equipped with anew development strategy also obtaineda new name: Unior, tovarna kovanegaorodja Zree.The new name was formedfrom the words Univerzalno Orodje(Universal Tools), by which the companyhad been known for a long time.

In 1997 this successful Slovenian companywith stable international partnerships wastransformed into the UNIOR, d. d. jointstock company.Already at that time, thecompany had been operating in accordancewith ISO 9001 quality standards.

reach milestonesThrough permanent development while realising the necessity of changes and a competitiveadvantage we are consistently taking on new challenges with regard to all activities of thecompany thus ensuring successful operations.

By the 1980s Unior had established its nameas an important partner of the Europeanautomotive industry, namely as one of thelargest European producers of light forgingsand as one of the largest European producersof connecting rods for petrol engines. Initialdevelopment was enabled by a contract with theRenault concern, on the basis of which a joint-venture plant for the production of forgings wasbuilt in Zree. At the same time, Unior developedits production of homokinetic joints and machine

tools, initially intended for the companys ownneeds.

Unior Joint-Stock Company is todayone of the largest and most importantSlovenian exporters. With it's fiveproduction segments company followsthe tradition of a high quality andinnovation. Commited to high utilizationof own capacities, Unior enhances thebrand awarness through more than 2400employers and 32 group companiesaround the world.

In the mid-1970s Unior began buildingthe Rogla climatic health resort andOlympic centre on Pohorje, and a fewyears later construction of the Terme Zreespa commenced and with it, the TourismProgramme.
