The Task

You will take on the role of a person who lives in the Virginia, one of the thirteen colonies in America. You must decide whether you want to be a Loyalist or a Patriot. Once you have decided on which side you will be in the debate and have notified the teacher, you will conduct research. You will primarily research on the beliefs and reasoning of Loyalist, however, you will also have to know about the other’s side reasoning. Any good debater knows that in order to argue efficiently, one must know about the opposing side in order to counterattack well.

We will be using Padlet to gear our town meeting in class.

Conclusion

Tensions reached it’s all time high and The American Revolution broke out. The American Revolutionary War lasted from 1775 to 1783, with the result of the colonies’ independence from Great Britain. On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed. In the end, the Patriots were the winners of the debate and war. The Patriots won the war and their freedom from the British. A new nation was born, The United States of America.

Do you think the right side won? Both the Loyalist and Patriots had strong, valid reasons for fighting for their beliefs as we saw in our roleplay and discussion. As you learn about other wars, keep in mind that there always at least two sides to any argument.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have successfully completed the WebQuest on The American Revolution. You took on the role of either a Loyalist or Patriot who lives in colonial America. You took a stance and supported your beliefs on whether or not to fight for independence with reason and facts. You have successfully completed your civil duty, fight on for what you believe in!
