Definition of PSBPBS is a process for understanding and resolving the problem behavior of children that is based on values and empirical research. It offers and approach for developing and understanding of why the child engages in problem behavior and strategies' for preventing the occurrence of problem behavior while teaching the child new skills. Positive behavior support offers a holistic approach that considers all factors that impact the child and the child’s behavior. It can be used to address problem behaviors that range from aggression, tantrums, and property destruction to social withdrawal.

Hypothesis Development
O What is a hypothesis?O A predictionO A best guess
O Taking into account all of the info. O Predictors, circumstances, settings, and
purpose.
Sample HypothesesO Nathan appears to use tantrums to
request help and objects. When these tantrums occur, the caregiver is likely to provide attention, the requested object, or another preferred object. Nathan does not make requests verbally, but will bring an adult to desired object. If he does not receive a consequence for his request, Nathan will have tantrum.
Behavior Support Plan Development
O Prevention strategies: strategies used to reduce the likelihood that the behavior will occur
O Replacement Skills: skills to teach that will replace the problem behavior
O Consequence Strategies: Guidelines for how the ADULTS will respond to the problem behavior in ways that will NOT maintain the behavior positive reinforcement
O Long Term Strategies: Long Term goals that help the child and the family in meeting their goals for the child.
