Edinburgh Award Outline 2019-20Peer Learning & Support Strand

Introduction

All students involved with Peer Learning and Support have the opportunity to take part in the Edinburgh Award as long as they complete enough hours, and volunteer with us for the whole year.

The Peer Learning and Support strand of the Edinburgh Award helps you get the most out of your experience as a Peer Leader. This strand of the Award helps you to work towards excellence as a Leader, and it celebrates the fantastic work that you do to make a positive impact on students at the University.

We have created a timeline and schedule that will give students the opportunity to plan out their Edinburgh Award to ensure its completion.

1. The Edinburgh Award

We all know it’s a really tough job market out there and that these days it’s no longer enough just to have a degree, even from a world-renowned institution like the University of Edinburgh. So with 100,000s of students graduating from UK universities every year, what are you going to do to stand out from the crowd?

Regardless of what you choose to do next, employers want university graduates who are ready for work – they’ll be investing in you and they want to know they’ll get a return on that investment.

Employers want graduates: who are self-aware, who capitalise on their strengths, who will have impact wherever they work, who are committed to personal development and life-long learning, and who can confidently provide evidence for these claims.

And that’s where the Edinburgh Award comes in…

What will the Edinburgh Award help me do? The answer is: ‘Whatever it means for you and whatever situation you find yourself in, we want you to be successful and to make a difference. That’s what the Edinburgh Award is all about.

By being part of the Edinburgh Award you’ll be helped to: increase your self-awareness; make the most of your existing strengths and develop new skills/abilities; have impact and make a difference whatever situation you are in; and confidently sell and demonstrate what you have to offer to others, including employers
