Canvas showcase is one of those “can’t miss” events in the circus field.
It’s a great networking opportunity, a place to discover new talent and to meet with fellow professionals.
We are very pleased to present a selection of Catalan artists that will be pitching their new and exciting work, looking for touring proposals, and willing to learn and share their perspective and knowledge of the circus scene.
Also, key players such as Central del Circ, APCC, the Association of Catalan Circus Professionals, and Trapezi Circus Fair, are joining us.

Catalan Arts -Government ofCataloniaCatalan Arts is the brand used for the international promotion of Catalan companies that operate in the performing arts, music, books, visual arts and digital culture sectors.
Hosted by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC), Catalan Arts identifies the activities carried out by ICEC’s Market Development Department following the internationalization strategy implemented by the Government of Catalonia’s Ministry of Culture.

The Institut Ramon Llull is a public consortium established in 2002 with the aim of promoting Catalan language and culture abroad. The Institut Ramon Lull’s work is structured in three main areas of activity promoting the following: Catalan literary and scholarly works (Literature and the Humanities Department); Catalan studies in academic settings (Language and Universities Department; and visual arts, architecture and design, performing arts, music and film (Performing and Visual Arts Department).
The Performing and Visual Arts Department gives wide exposure to Catalan culture through designing and organizing artistic events in cities around the world at the forefront of these spheres; promotes the presence of Catalan artists at first rate international events featuring contemporary art and performance through specific cooperation agreements with international festivals, institutions, museums and art centers and through the travel grants for artists.

Indomador is a performance focusing on weird routines in modern life and bringing out the inner animal in us. It is a grotesque parody of the modern human and the difference between the sexes that are culturally predetermined.
A new circus and contemporary dance performance that shows transgenic bodies, handstands, acrobatics with heels, spoon in the nose, rooster fi ght, ritual dances. The artist discovers his animal instinct and transforms the stage into an “animalarium”.

A man on stage and a big weighing scale. He’s playing with weights and counterweights.
Everything oscillates, turns around, and he dances on a journey looking for the limits of balance.
MiraT is a reflection on the fragility of human condition. A visual metaphor on equilibrium and critical situations. MiraT is contemporary dance combined with circus techniques, Chinese pole and live music, humor and lots of complicity. The show will be at next Sismograf Festival,Trapezi Circus Fair and FiraTàrrega.

Compañía de Circo “eia” (Unforetold Flights in Harmony, or élans imprévus accordés in French) sees the light in 2009 as a fusion between several artists: Armando Rabanera, Fabrizio Giannini & Cristiano Della Monica, and Francesca Lissia & Celso Pereira. Silenzio is a circus-dance-object theater show to be premiered in April 2018 at Mercat de les Flors (Barcelona). Conceived and directed by R. Magro, this Indoor show brings together on stage circus and dance artists, 5 women and 1 man.

Company SOON presents a new show called Gregarious. In this acrobatic piece, Nilas Kronlid & Manel Rosés, play and explore the limits of the other person, always creating new challenges between them. Gregarious is a never-ending race that will bring them to absurd, poetic and risky situations.
Nilas is a Swedish acrobat who has specialized in Korean teeterboard, Chinese pole and acrobatics. Manel Rosés comes from Barcelona and his main disciplines in circus are Korean teeterboard and handstand.

Industrial Teatrera is a theater & circus company, working both in the street arts fi eld and indoor theater, specialized in clown. Emerges from an encounter in 2002 between Jaume Navarro and Mamen Olías, two artists with an intense career in theater and circus, working in different companies and projects. Together they create shows like Náufragos, De paso, Rojo or En color?. APCC represents the different branches of Catalan circus professionals. Its purpose is to bring together different sectors of the Catalan circus and promote, disseminate and standardize the circus scene in all its forms. La Centraldel Circ
La Central del Circ is a creative space for circus professionals with resources available for artists looking for training, a space to rehearse, or further education. La Central del Circ space covers over 3,000 m2 at the Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona and is open to artists working in all circus areas and in different stages of the creation process. From everyday training, to residences for creation, and including further training, international mobility and artistic accompaniment during the different phases of the creation of a show.

Fira del CircTRAPEZI
Over the past 20 years, TRAPEZI has been taking place in the city of Reus (100km south from Barcelona) during the first half of May.
TRAPEZI Circus Fair is the most relevant meeting point for circus arts in Catalonia and Spain. TRAPEZI is a big exhibition circus platform in our country, open to host international work and aiming at showing the different artistic trends of circus arts.
The performances take place in various indoor and outdoor venues and the programme has been designed to include the diverse and large audience who attends the festival every year. TRAPEZI has also a very enthusiastic audience, which makes it a great annual spring celebration. www.trapezi.cat/en/
