Hello! My name is Erin Dobey and I am currently a senior at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am working towards completing my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement. I am originally from Evergreen, Colorado which is about 30 minutes west of Denver in the mountains. Although I have loved Des Moines and am so grateful for my time in this awesome city, I will be returning to Colorado to pursue an Elementary teaching position upon my graduation in December. I am currently student-teaching in a third-grade class at Brookview Elementary in the Waukee School District. In October I will be traveling to Belfast, Northern Ireland to complete my second student-teaching placement. Traveling and learning about education on a global scale is a passion of mine, which is why I decided to pursue this route for student-teaching. I have also been on Drake-led trips to Ghana and Finland where I was privileged to learn about what the educational realm was like in these particular countries. My picture above shows some of the kids I was able to work with at a rural school in Ghana; children have a special place in my heart and can put a smile on my face no matter which part of the globe I am in!
