What it isPinterest is a pinboard-styled social photo sharing website (www.pinterest.com).

The service allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections. The site's mission statement is to "connect everyone in the world through the 'things' they find interesting."

Pinterest now has over 12 million unique users monthly and it is especially popular among women (97% of the site's Facebook "likes" being made by women).

How it works?Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. It allows us to organize and share all the beautiful things we find on the web. We can browse pinboards created by other people to get inspiration and create our own boards. The board can be created on any topic.

I. Create a Page as a BrandWe can create a brandpage on Pinterest, and curate content to build our brand.Brands can upload their products or pin images that capture a lifestyle and/or the essence of the brand.

That way consumers can really see how the brand fits into their lives.

II. Promote our webshop

Pinterest features a section on the site called ‘Gifts’ which contains information on products categorised by price, with links through to purchase. It’s easy to get our products listed in this section.

To add a price to a pin, we should type the $ symbol followed by the number amount in the description.

What’s the secret?Pinterest prompts people to add the app to their Facebook Timelines. This is a great way to build very visual awareness for Pinterest on Facebook.

That’s how it became one of the fastest growing social site, increasing its market share by 68% in January in the UK and hit 12 million unique visitors in the US.

Our recommendationsWe recommend a trial of Pinterest for brands with strong visual content. During the trial brands should:

1. Create a brand page (branded user account)2. Upload brand related photos and images to boards and to the “gifts” section3. Collect, curate and share content that is relevant for the brand

During and after the trial (recommended period: 4-8 weeks) impact and performance of activities should be measured and evaluated.
