Shore in a special recital directedto their ears alone recently. Thesoldiers had raced 60 miles in ajeep to hear Dinah and were be-moaning the fact that they had beenlate. Dinah, in a dressing tent,overheard them, and asked themen to wait. When she had finisheddressing, she sang for the twodreamy -eyed GI's for 20 minuteswhile guns boomed in the distanceand planes droned overhead.

Mosquito, Not Bee,New Benny Theme

HOLLYWOOD, JackBenny is playing a new tune onhis fiddle this season. After a sum-mer of island -hopping in the Pacificwar area, it's now "The Mosquito"instead of "The Bee."

The comedian, who returns toNBC for his thirteenth season onSunday, Oct. 1, (7:00 p.m.) was stillslapping mosquito bites when hegot to Honolulu on his way home.

"The Army's 'Mosquito Network'is well named," he said. "Whywhen I was playing, one of thelittle so-and-so's started drilling onmy fiddle. I fooled him, though. Istarted to play 'The Bee,' andeverybody thought the drilling wassound effects."

doesn't help a bit. "Certain mos-quitos are especially trained tohandle this sort of thing," he said."If the netting isn't attached, theymerely lift it up and hold it so thatthe others can get in, and if it isattached, they just drill rightthrough it. This second techniquewas rapidly gaining favor just be-fore I left because it destroys themosquito netting for future use.

"And don't be surprised if youhear a strange, realistic buzzingwhen I'm playing 'The Bee' thisseason," he added. "I think thereare stowaways in my fiddle."
