system,the drilling,production,and reservoir engineers drawassistance from the Petrophysical(Formation-

evaluation)Engineer ,who provides tools and analytical

techniques for determining rock and fluid characteristics.

•The Petrophysical Engineer measures theacoustic,radioactive,and electrical properties of the Rock-fluid

system and takes samples of the rocks and well fluids to

determine porosity and permeability .

•The ultimate goal is improved Reservoirmanagement . – A systematic approach to petrophysics problems provides a methodology

to evaluate a reservoir .

– Cores provide data on the rock and pore types,used to characterize

capillarity and flow.

– Addition of log and well data determines flow units,storage and flow

capacity .

• With this basic picture of the reservoir,seismic

data,well data and reservoir flow simulationprovide a MODEL of the RESERVOIR.
