Umum• Sludge: Solids dan Biosolids• Wujud solids dan biosolids: liquid atau semisolid liquid

yang mengandung 0,25 – 12 % solids dalam satuan berat

• Solids: total padatan organik dan an-organik dalam air limbah hasil pengolahan.

• Biosolids (WEF, 1998): padatan dalam air limbah merupakan produk organik hasil pengolahan air limbah yang dapat digunakan untuk proses stabilisasi dan composting.

• Sludge dalam lingkup hasil proses pengolahan berhubungan erat dengan proses descriptor yang meliputi: primary sludge, waste-activated sludge, dan secondary sludge.

Permasalahan

• Komposisi (by volume dan kualitas) sludge yang tidak terolah sangatlah besar.

• Bagian biosolids hasil pengolahan biologis dikomposisikan sebagai bahan organik yang membentuk wujud lain (turunan) akan terdekomposisi dan menjadi lebih offensive.

• Padatan dalam jumlah yang lebih sedikit.

Prinsip Treatment Sludge

• Mereduksi (reduce) AIR dan BAHAN ORGANIK DAN AN-ORGANIK.

• Membuat padatan terolah dengan reuse (first treatment and must be done) atau final disposal (last treatment).

Kuantitas Sludge• Primary sedimentation

Specific gravity solids = 1,4Specific gravity sludge = 1,02Dry solids (kg/103 m3) = 110 – 170 (typically = 100 kg/103 m3)

• Penting diketahui untuk kuantitas sludge: (lihat wastewater engineering: treatment and reuse hal. 1457 tabel 14-8) bahwa kuantitas sludge sering diidentikkan dalam satuan solids concentration dalam % dry solids. Jadi untuk mengetahui solids concentration sludge, maka harus diketahui terlebih dahulu dry solids (gravimetri). Contoh:
