After any unsuitable materials havebeen excavated and the subgradehas been compacted, an aggregatebase course is installed andcompacted to project parameters.

A sand bedding layer, screeded to arecommended 1-inch thickness isinstalled over the base layer. On larger projects, specializedequipment may be used that allowscoverage of more area in a faster,more efficient manner.

After the sand bed has beenscreeded in the work area, thepavers can be installed. The UNI-Anchorlock® pavers are delivered tothe site prepackaged and ready formechanical installation.

UNI-Anchorlock�s® angled sidesoffer advanced interlock, and thespecialized production layout ofeach layer allows for fastpositioning and placement.

Experienced paving contractorshave found that UNI-Anchorlock®

allows for a substantially fasterrate of installation compared toother pavers.

After a sufficient area of UNI-Anchorlock® pavers has beeninstalled, the surface is compactedwith a vibrating plate compactor.

Dry joint sand is spread over thepavers and is swept into thejoints manually or mechanically.The pavers are compacted again,and additional sand is swept inuntil the joints are full.

The UNI-Anchorlock® pavers alsoare subjected to container handlersweighing up to 152,000 lb, whichwhen loaded, can generate 75,000 lbper axle over a concentrated area.

An off-loading crane used at the portweighs nearly 395,000 lb and thesupport stabilizers transfer extremeloads onto the UNI-Anchorlock®

pavement.

In addition to vertical point loads,the container handlers often maketight maneuvering turns, whichcreate extreme horizontal stresseson the pavers.

The unique, patented shape ofUNI-Anchorlock® provides resistance to these forces and anypotential rutting or creeping.

Over 86,000 square feet of UNI-Anchorlock® has been installed atthe Sterling Sugar Refinery inFranklin, Louisiana.

This pavement was designed forstoring shipping containers and issubjected to 35,000-lb cargocontainers stacked up to three high.

The container handlers utilized at Sterling Sugar weigh 100,000 lbwithout cargo and up to 160,000 lbwhen fully loaded.

In the fall of 1997, there was a watermain leak under a 10 to 20-footwide section of the UNI-Anchorlock®

pavement that extended almost theentire length of the facility.

Even with the damage to theunderlying soils, the pavement wascapable of supporting heavyvehicular traffic until repairs couldbe made during the off-seasonthree months later.

The UNI-Anchorlock® pavers allowedeasy access to the water main, andthe same units were reinstated,saving on costly repairs that wouldhave been necessary with asphaltor reinforced concrete pavements.

UNI-Anchorlock® pavers can evenbe uninstalled mechanically, savingmore time and money.

The Port of New Orleans has alsoinstalled UNI-Anchorlock® for a80,000 sq ft cargo storage area attheir Louisiana Avenue Yard.Steel products, as well ascontainerized cargo, are stored atthis site.

The New Orleans ConventionCenter has specified over 342,000sq ft of UNI-Anchorlock® for theirTruck Marshalling Yard. Tractor-trailer trucks delivering cargo fortradeshows will off-load materialsin this designated area.
