INTRO - DEFEND
If you bring up the topic of global warming in any typical, friendly
conversation, you are likely to get conflicting opinions. While some can try to
argue that there is no real evidence of climate change, there have been many
scientific studies done that would prove that to be false. Global warming is a
fact, and if changes are not made, it could have devastating results for
generations to come.
BODY PARAGRAPH - DEFEND
Climate change represents one of the major challenges of the 21st century. A leading
scientist from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration believes that there is overwhelming
evidence to support the fact that global warming is directly linked to the habits of man
(“Chronology”). While we currently have regulations in place for the use and disposal of certain
elements like mercury, we seem to ignore pollutants, such as carbon, that are much more common
and are more of a threat to our health and well-being (“Obama”). The increase in global temperature
even has an impact on natural disasters like droughts and floods, which in turn, can be a danger to us
all. As global temperatures increase, the ozone at the earth’s surface increases, too. This increase
at ground level can result in serious breathing difficulties (Ravi). As part of his overall action plan
regarding changes in our climate, President Obama stated, “We have a moral obligation to leave our
children a planet that's not polluted or damaged…. so we leave a cleaner, more stable environment
for future generations” (“Obama”). The president believes that improvements can made.
