ITINERARy... Days 1-3 Beijing The journey commences in one

of the world’s most interesting cities. Visit iconic sights including

Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Admire the impressive

Great Wall up close and reflect on the enormity and history of

this feat of ancient engineering. Use free time for an independent

exploration of Beijing’s sights - the Temple of Heaven and the

Summer Palace are both worth a visit. In the evenings, consider

feasting on traditional Peking duck at a restaurant or sample

some tasty street food at a night market. Days 4-5 Xi’an Travel

to Xi’an and spend time exploring this beautiful region. Why not

hire a bicycle to cycle around the city walls or join locals in their

daily tai chi practise? Uncover ancient history on a day trip to

view the ever-vigilant Terracotta Warriors. Archaeologists believe

that these warriors and horses were sculpted and placed in battle

formation to protect the First Emperor in the afterlife. Afterwards,

stop in at a village and enjoy lunch with a local family, then make

new friends at Xi’an Hui Ling, an Intrepid Foundation-supported

community project for people with learning disabilities. Day 6

Suzhou Journey to Suzhou to relax in the peaceful surroundings

of ornate gardens and parks. Perhaps rent a bicycle to explore

the streets, canals and alleyways of this charming city that holds

onto its heritage despite the presence of development. In free

time, choose to visit the Silk Museum to view and learn about

the exquisite craftsmanship of this famous Chinese invention.

In the evening, why not hit the water on an optional gondola

ride to see the elegance of Suzhou from a different perspective?

Days 7-9 Shanghai Board a speedy bullet train bound for the

thriving metropolis of Shanghai. Futuristic skyscrapers and colonial

buildings vie for space on the Bund and in Pudong. Explore

Shanghai’s complex network of traditional alleyways and perhaps

snaffle a bargain at the Yuyuan Bazaar or get a taste of Europe

in the hip French Concession area. Choose to sip cocktails in a

modern bar, slurp noodles at a street stall or dine on delicious

dumplings at a restaurant. Be amazed by the skill, grace and talent

of the energetic Shanghai acrobats at an evening performance - an

exciting way to end this memorable trip!

ITINERARy... Days 1-3 Beijing Modern high-rise buildings tower

over buzzing, busy streets - a dramatic contrast to the timeless

wonder of Beijing’s ancient sites. There is plenty of time to explore

this amazing metropolis, from the Forbidden City and Summer

Palace to backstreet hutongs packed with tiny shops and eateries.

Days 4-5 Great Wall Travel to a lesser-known section of the

Great Wall. Take a long walk over steep, remote terrain taking in

incredible views of the countryside. Rise early the next morning

to catch a sunrise over this great feat of ancient engineering, then

return to Beijing and jump aboard an overnight train bound for

Xi’an. Days 6-8 Xi’an Formerly one of China’s imperial capitals,

there is much to see in Xi’an. Cycle around the city walls, admire

the Great Mosque or sample street food at the night markets in the

Muslim Quarter. Don’t miss the famed 2,200-year-old Terracotta

Warriors - eternally vigilant in guarding the tomb of China’s First

Emperor, the proud warriors are positioned in strict accordance

with an ancient text on the art of war. Days 9-10 Shanghai Hunt

for a bargain in the bustling Yuyuan Bazaar or shop up a storm

in some of China’s hippest stores. Gobble Shanghai’s favourite

dumpling, xiaolongbao - but do so with caution - these molten

morsels easily scald over-eager eaters! In the evening, perhaps

catch a thrilling performance by the energetic Shanghai acrobats.

Days 11-12 Xitang Escape the hustle and bustle of the big cities

for an overnight stay in a traditional guesthouse. Visit ancient villas

and stroll on cobblestone streets alongside the many canals in

town. Days 13-15 yangshuo Dramatic limestone peaks and lush

surrounds characterise the unforgettable Guangxi region. Perhaps

take it all in on a cycling adventure along picturesque country lanes

or wander the backstreets of Yangshuo to discover hole-in-the-wall

restaurants and small markets. Days 16-18 Longji Terraces Hike

through the magnificent Longji rice terraces that cling precariously

to the side of steep mountains. Stay with locals in a hillside village

and take day treks to visit other communities throughout the area.

Days 19-20 hong Kong Bounce into the bright lights of Hong

Kong. Satisfy shopping urges at the Stanley Market or join the
