The idea of an Intrepid Knowledge & Innovaton Hub has its origin in the training schools we organised under Intrepid umbrella….

Three Horizons Method
Outlook of Transitions
The Future of University Outlook
Horizon 1: Continuing as usual
Horizon 3:Shifting to a new paradigm
• Fixed curricula• Silos of faculties and
disciplines• The outcome is all about
getting diplomas• One direction of teaching• Uniform approach• Evaluation and
promotion system, e.g. focus on academicjournals
• Narrow learning modes: theory but little practicein context
• Almost no creativity
• Immersive learning space• Education for sustainable and social development• Learning creative and hands on skills• Personal development• No degrees: credits for life long learning• New methods: Theory U, embodied learning• Choice of space and place of learning, e.g. more in
nature• Re-learn the human and nature connection• Networked learning: Getting to know each other and
understand ones needs (empower us to know the other and ourselves)
• More options e.g. summer schools, Erasmus, etc.• E-learning models and co-learning, co-creating• Reverse classroom: online to learn theory, content,
and classroom is for embodied learning

Clarity
What are real
problems in
society?
How can we
approach them?
Being strong
Learning process
“Who am I?” and “what is important to me?”
Taking responsibility
From which place do we act?
How can we get involved into this transformation?

COURAGE to face an unknown learning… trusting the process!
INDIVIDUAL INTENTIONS enable group
learning.
CONFIDENCE AND SAFE LEARNING:
a deeper source of
transdisciplinarity
OBSERVATION:suspending judgment,
agreeing to illuminate blind
spots.ENGAGEMENT for real
transformation.Getting ready to let go old habits.

What innovations should be promoted?
How do we decide on the distribution of resources
for R&D&I?
What to research?
What are the priorities?
Which questions should be solved first?
What is more urgent? What
can wait?

A shift towards RESPONSIBILITY
Do I reflect upon the long term impact of my research? And upon
the impact of my field? Can I anticipate and improve said
impact?
Do I share my research with experts from other fields? And with end users or
different stakeholders? Do I consider other opinions?
Apart from respecting legal and ethical principles, do I consider
other shared social values, such as inclusiveness and sustainability?
Does my organisation orthe S&T system have them
in mind?

A shift towards RESPONSIBILITY
The RRI dimensions (beyond output performance)Sustainability is a very broad concept, describing the requirement that research and innovation should meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It has been operationalized in the SDGs 2030 Agenda.
Ethical soundness is more than ethical acceptability. The latter is governed by legal instruments and deontology guidelines, of which the most straightforward examples are the requirements placed on researchers and innovators in medical research. Beyond the conformity to ethical codes of conduct, the concept of “ethically sound” includes the moral dimensions of empathy and compassion, social justice and resilience to change (i.e. the capacity of adapting) associated to any choice and action. In this broader meaning, it partially overlap with the concept of societal desirability below.
Societal desirability is the least explored RRI dimension. It requires research and innovation to have the potential to benefit humankind as a whole, and also to address the research and innovation needs of marginalized and low incomepopulations. It has been partially operationalised with some social SDGs..
