  • 1Gain value across the workflow

INtools is flexible and modular, integrating with up-

and downstream tasks. It quickly and easily accesses

data, enables revision, and creates audit trails.

    Engineering

Use INtools to create and manage instrumentation

data in a single database, facilitating faster, concurrent

engineering and reducing work hours and cost. INtools

ensures accurate data and consistent deliverables, effec-

tively manages change, and optimizes design and

    review scenarios.

Value: About 15 percent of typical project cost is

spent on concept and design. One INtools customer

estimates that, on average, they can save 30 percent of

    engineering hours.

    INtools addresses instrument-related work

processes throughout the plant life cycle.

    Reduce asset management costs, increase

return on assets (ROA), and improve your

return on investment (ROI) through shorter

    project execution and operational efficiencies.

    INtools the leading industry instrumentation

solution delivers solutions that shorten time to market,

improve compliance with safety and environmental regu-

lations, and reduce instrumentation expenses. INtools is

    integrated with complementary SmartPlant workflow

  • 2Design

INtools flexibly adapts to your work process.

Conceptual data can be entered and refined, and docu-

ments can be created at any time during the project cycle

to review or use the data. You can create designs and

reports that support the procurement, construction, and

testing phases. Interface with component vendors such as

Emerson Process Management (Fisher) to reduce design

    time and increase data quality.

Value: One INtools customer estimates a conservative

savings of 5 percent across all instrument engineering/

design tasks. Another estimates a potential savings of

25 percent in design time on new projects.

    Procurement

Used with MARIAN Intergraph's material procure-

ment and management system INtools eliminates

handover of instrument design data to procurement,

shortening the procurement and delivery cycle and sup-

porting downstream change control. You can minimize

    materials surplus/shortages, reducing project cost

    and schedule.

    Value: Materials management and procurement

processes represent at least 40 percent of an EPC's

efforts, offering great potential savings. Instrumentation

procurement represents the greatest capital investment

(for instance, in 2002, an estimated US$6.9 billion world-

wide in the hydrocarbon processing industry).

    Construction

INtools lets you extract control system views from

the database to create work packages, assign them to

    subcontractors, then track progress/completion.

Value: Approximately 85 to 90 percent of capital

expenditure occurs during plant construction and com-

missioning. You can reduce time and cost for construction

by 4 to 10 percent and reduce inventory expenses

    approximately 15 percent.

INtools is integrated with upstreamand downstream analysis tools

Built upon The Engineering Framework technology

Intergraph has developed with its alliance members,

INtools is part of Intergraphs SmartPlant solutions

for the plant life cycle. INtools integrates with up-

and downstream tasks, eliminating redundant data

entry. Web-based access capabilities make INtools

the clear choice as more functions and business

activities take place outside the four walls of the

    traditional enterprise.

You can generate and review a fieldbus segment wiring report.

  • 3With INtools, our checking hours were reduced in half,

from 10 percent to 5 percent, saving us about 20 min-

utes per loop diagram. Combined with only inputting

data once and not having to check the junction box, we

have an overall savings of two hours per loop diagram.

Inputting our information just once ensures data accu-

racy. In addition, INtools gives us a central location for

instrumentation information. With just one place to

look for documents, it saves us time.

    Commissioning

INtools allows you to create test packages during

commissioning. It streamlines instrument test package

assembly and provides accurate, current data for planning

and reporting. SmartPlant Explorer and SmartPlant Markup

add value by providing data access and red-lining capa-

    bility across the Web.

Value: The faster commissioning takes place, the

faster the plant can make product and generate revenue.

INtools provides a platform for safe, compliant startup

    and operations.

    Operations & Maintenance

Along with the P&ID, instrumentation data is the

most critical to access during plant operations. INtools

provides a single source of current, accurate, and consistent

data that all plant personnel can quickly access to per-

form their duties. You can improve plant uptime, safety,

and compliance. Optional interfaces with ERP link engi-

neering data with business data to better control costs

and resources. Meridium provides reliability analysis to

schedule preventive maintenance and reduce unsched-

    uled failures.

Value: Losses associated with operations and main-

tenance processes cost U.S. process industries billions of

dollars yearly. Maintenance problems can result in expen-

sive downtime to obtain and replace equipment, greater

potential for regulatory violations/shutdowns, and 6 to 11

percent higher utility costs for poorly maintained equip-

ment. On the other hand, preventive maintenance

savings may range 12 to 40 percent, depending on how

well instrument and equipment data is understood and

integrated into operations and maintenance processes.

Instruments are maintained and replaced more fre-

quently than any other component, representing about

20 percent of total capital and maintenance spending.

In the hydrocarbon industry, an estimated US$3.7 billion

will be spent in 2004 on instrumentation maintenance.

  • Integrate with other leadingindustry solutions

    INtools integrates with complementary applications

such as Intergraph SmartPlant P&ID, SmartPlant Electrical,

Plant Design System (PDS), and SmartPlant Foundation

data management, creating optimal workflow. Its inte-

gration with MARIAN shortens the procurement and

delivery cycle. You can use SmartPlant Explorer to browse

INtools on the Web and SmartPlant Markup and

    SmartSketch for electronic markup.

as FIRSTVUE software from Emerson for fast, accurate

control-valve specification and Flowserve flow control.

It interfaces with Meridium the best-of-class reliability

solution. With the SAP R/3 interface, the INtools data-

base can access business data and the SAP R/3 system

can access instrumentation data. As a result, you can effi-

ciently manage and control planning, maintenance costs,

    component maintenance history, and more.

What INtools customers have to sayabout better data control and data integrity:

Elisa Guinea Corres, Project Manager of Operations at

the Kujesa office of Krupp Uhde Jacobs Engineering

de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., says the company chose INtools

because it has a complete database and update for

instrumentation projects. All deliverables link with

a report and an intelligent database to have better

    control of all information.
